Margarets Cowboy, the winner of last year’s $70,125 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge (pictured, outside), won another AQHA Racing Challenge stakes on Saturday as he prevailed by drew clear to a 1 ¼-length win in the $48,714 Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge. Miguel Ramirez was in the irons for the 400-yard trip timed in :19.676 for a 97 speed index. The win earned the Oklahoma-bred a berth in the $150,000-estimated Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3) on October 17 at The Downs at Albuquerque. In last year’s event, the Flying Cowboy 123 gelding ran a strong third in the $149,925 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2).

Trained by John Hammes, who is also the co-breeder and co-owner with Bradbury Racing, Margarets Cowboy has earned $107,557 with a record of 14-3-1-4. Margarets Cowboy is out of the winning PYC Paint Your Wagon mare Now Margaret.

Second-place went to Stephen Williams’ This Iz My Time, an Oklahoma-bred filly by Valiant Hero trained by Jason Olmstead. This marked her stakes debut and sixth time in a row hitting the board. Diane and Paul Wolfe’s homebred Roy Hobs, a gelding by One Fabulous Eagle trained by Edward Hardy, took third.
