California Shelter Needing Help
The Carolina Dog Society (CDS) has been approached by an animal shelter in California seeking assistance with approximately 40 Carolina Dogs currently in its care. The dogs were seized from an owner and, according to the shelter, are severely under-socialized and fearful of human interaction.
No CDS club members have seen these dogs in person, so we cannot independently comment on their health, temperament, or overall condition. The information below is based on what has been provided to the CDS by the shelter.
There are approximately 30 adult dogs. Based on the information currently available, these dogs are likely not appropriate for the vast majority of homes and may require experienced handlers, specialized care, and a significant financial commitment. Anyone considering taking one of these dogs should carefully assess whether they have the experience, resources, and environment necessary to meet the dog's needs.
If you are interested in exploring the possibility of taking one of these dogs, please contact the shelter directly at [email protected].
Dogs Potentially Suitable for Rehabilitation
In addition to the approximately 30 adult dogs, the shelter has identified the following dogs as potentially more responsive to rehabilitation and placement. However, these dogs may also require significant time, patience, specialized care, and financial resources. It is important to recognize that, given their circumstances and limited history, no one can predict their long-term health, behavior, or adjustment to a home environment.

How You Can Help
The CDS understands that most people are not in a position to take one of these dogs into their homes. However, there are other ways to help.
The shelter is incurring significant expenses for housing, feeding, and veterinary care while these dogs remain in its custody. To help offset these costs, the CDS is setting up a GoFundMe fundraiser on behalf of the shelter. All proceeds will go directly to the shelter.
If you are able to contribute, any donation would be greatly appreciated and will help the shelter provide care for these dogs.
