With the temperatures rising please remember if you cant touch it your dogs paws shouldn't either.
The "Seven-Second" Rule: Always test the pavement before walking your dog. Place the back of your hand directly on the asphalt for 7 seconds. If it is too painful or hot for your hand, it is too hot for your dog's paws.
Extreme Heat Conversion: On an 87degree day asphalt can soar to a scorching 143 degrees. Dogs do not have sweat glands in their paws like we do on our feet, making them highly susceptible to rapid burning.
Degrees of Burns: Thermal damage to paw pads can escalate rapidly. First-degree burns cause redness and swelling, second-degree burns form clear blisters, and third-degree burns can cause charred or sloughing skin. Please remember to protect your pups paw with shoes, paw balm or other paw protective products.
