I did it! It has been seventeen years since I rode out alone. When I was a teenager I rode by myself. Sometimes fifteen, twenty miles in a day. I loved the solitude, just my horse, nature and me. Seventeen years ago, in my forties, I came off in the middle of a bean field, landing hard enough that my neck and back hurt for two weeks. I have not ridden alone since. But today was just so gorgeous. My riding buddies were working or otherwise engaged. I sent Julie a message, telling her I was thinking about taking Chaos out. She said "I think he would do great". So I saddled up, climbed in the saddle and was transported to my youth. Chaos and I rode the trails for two hours. Honestly, I think he was more relaxed than when we have a rider with us. I understand the little girl on her first trail ride as she said several times "best day ever!". Maybe not my best day ever, but definitely one of my most memorable.
