Looking for God’s will for your life? Wondering what He’s calling you to do? Many times we get wrapped up in the details of what we make important, overlooking the simple truth that God has given us to walk in. You want to follow Jesus? —be like Him. You want to know His will for your life? —imitate His love. You want to have a life that’s filled with purpose? —live to make much of Him.
In Philippians 2, Paul paints a clear and practical picture of who Jesus was and is, and who we are to be as His followers. Jesus was perfect in every way, yet did not consider Himself esteemed. He was holy and mighty, yet walked this earth in humility and meekness. He laid down His life for the many, so that by His sacrifice we might live fully.
This is your model, your aim, your goal. Have His example always before you, set your mind to be focused on Him. Walk in love towards outsiders, be kind to those who show hostility towards you, have mercy on the weak, stand with the broken. Give your life to consider others better than yourself.
It’s simple and practical, but we must strive to commit our hearts and minds to this every day. It’s a constant reset, taking the focus off of ourselves and setting it back to Jesus. He is the perfect sacrifice, and the perfect example. He is our fulfillment, and He is our aim. Set your mind on Him.
Philippians 2:1–5 (ESV): “So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus.”
