Tick Expert Interviewed on Record Tick-Borne Illness Cases

Griffin Dill, who manages the UMaine Cooperative Extension Tick Lab, recently spoke with NEWS CENTER Maine about the state reporting a record number of tick-borne disease cases in 2025.

According to Dill, Maine set new records for Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, and babesiosis cases,an important reminder that tick awareness and prevention remain critical across the state.

Our Tick Lab continues to support Maine residents through tick identification, testing, and research-based education to help reduce risk.

Each year we make a donation to the Dr. Sharp Memorial Fund in honor of the beloved pets in our practice that have crossed the rainbow bridge. This donation goes to help pets in need of medical care that otherwise wouldn’t receive it. This year, the need is even greater.

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, we wanted to remind everyone about the wonderful resource in the ASPCA pet poison control website for lists of toxic foods and plants for pets. They also have a hotline to call for information in case of accidental ingestion.
