A good bird dog knows how to point, but a great bird dog knows when to back!.

Week 3 update!

Im a few days late getting three-week update posted - time works a little differently up here, and the days have absolutely flown by! The weather has finally started cooperating, the scenting conditions have improved, and the dogs are fully settled into their daily routines.

Every dog continues to make progress. They're becoming more confident, learning how to use the wind, and figuring out how to handle these wild birds. Some are beginning to put all the puzzle pieces together, while the younger dogs are gaining valuable experience with every trip to the field. There's simply no substitute for seeing this many wild birds and getting this much time on the ground.

We're so proud of how far they've come over the past three weeks, but we aren't slowing down yet. Over the next few days, we'll continue hitting the ground hard and searching for just one more flush before it's time to head back south.

Summer camp — Week ✌🏼 update!!

Week two is in the books, and we’re continuing seeing progress!

The weather is finally giving us a little break and we are fortunate to get some much-needed moisture. Scenting conditions have still been tough on certain days, but the dogs are starting to put it all together. Most importantly they’re getting opportunities and seeing birds every day.

Some of our more advanced dogs are beginning to stand their birds nicely, while several of the younger puppies are already starting to show honoring! It’s exciting to watch things begin to click!

Were just over halfway point of summer camp, and I’m very pleased with the progress we’re seeing. There’s still plenty of work ahead, but I’m looking forward to seeing what another week brings!

Bird count so far…

• Sharptail : 210
• Pheasant : 54
• Partridge : 10

Good dogs, lots of birds, and progress everyday. Here’s to another good week in the field!

Week one is officially in the books, and North Dakota has already kept both the dogs and the trainers on their toes!

The weather has been less than cooperative, making scenting conditions tougher than we’d like. The birds have been especially tricky — running or taking flight before the dogs even realize they’re there, but that’s the beauty of training on wild birds.

The dogs have to learn to adjust, problem solve, and trust their nose. Also the birds haven’t been the only wildlife keeping things interesting so far we’ve encountered porcupines, skunks and even one pretty aggressive coyote.

Thankfully everyone’s doing well and it’s safe to say the dogs are getting the full North Dakota experience.
After just one week we’re already seeing things starting to click.

The dogs are settling into the daily routine, gaining confidence and beginning to figure out how to find and pin down these evlusive birds. Even the forecast is looking better. We’re finding more birds every day and we’re excited about the process.

We’re seeing there’s still a lot of summer camp ahead of us and that means plenty more opportunities for these dogs to learn and grow!!

There’s truly nothing like the excitement of starting PK South Summer Camp in North Dakota.

Today marks Day 4, and we are already reminded of why we return here year after year. Watching these dogs steps off the trailer, acclimate, and engage in their natural instincts is a timeless joy. Each dog is unique, and witnessing their confidence grow a little more each day is one of the most fulfilling aspects of our work.

The weather has kept us adaptable, with cool mornings and warmer afternoons, but we’ve managed to make the most of the every training session. We adjust our schedule daily to ensure the dogs are comfortable and set up for success.

The dogs are performing remarkably well. From the younger pups experiencing the beauty full terrain for the first time to the more experienced, dogs were finding their skills, each one is making significant progress. Long days filled with good words, exceptional dogs, and observing them relish every moment it’s a good one — there’s nothing quite like it.

☀️ HOT weather is here — and our dogs feel it too.

Whether you’re training, running, or just spending time outside, don’t forget the basics:

• Plenty of cool water
• Frequent breaks in the shade
• Avoid the hottest part of the day
• Watch for overheating or heat stress
• Cool-down time after runs or training

These dogs will give you everything they’ve got, even when it’s too hot. It’s our job to know when enough is enough. A healthy dog is a better dog — and keeping them safe in this heat matters. 🐾💧

Stay safe out there this summer! ☀️

Nothing better than putting in the work during the off-season and watching these dogs grow with every run. The heat is tough, but the drive never stops. Excited for what’s ahead this season.
