The mission of Squam Lakes Natural Science Center (SLNSC) is to advance understanding of ecology by exploring New Hampshire’s natural world. Through spectacular live animal exhibits, natural science education programs, and lake cruises, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center has educated and enlightened visitors for over forty years about our natural world. Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is located on Route 113 in Holderness, exit 24 off I-93, and is open daily from May 1 through November 1.

The Parsons Volunteer Recognition Dinner was special evening for some very special people.

Thank you to all of our incredible volunteers for the time, energy, and enthusiasm you share with Squam Lakes Natural Science Center. From welcoming visitors and caring for our trails to supporting programs, events, and so much more, our volunteers are an essential part of everything we do.

We are so grateful for the all ways you help us connect people with the natural world. Thank you for being part of the Science Center community and for all that you do!

Experience Squam Lake from the water!

Cruise along crystal-clear waters, past rocky shores, celebrated islands, historic homes, and scenic mountain views while keeping an eye out for the remarkable wildlife that calls Squam Lake home.

Join us for a 90-minute guided cruise led by experienced Naturalists and Boat Captains and discover what makes Squam Lake so special.

Discover Squam Cruises run daily through October 12. Or join us for Cruise with a Naturalist on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 3:00 p.m. through October 8, except September 23 and 24.

Join us for Raptor Migration Celebration on Saturday, September 19!

Celebrate the annual migration of raptors with live raptor presentations, flight demonstrations, and opportunities to learn more about these incredible birds.

The event will feature three Birds of Prey presentations by the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS), with each presentation including a flight demonstration featuring a raptor.

Visitors can also participate in our Hawk Watch, helping document migrating raptors as they pass through the region, and kids can take part in activities designed for budding ornithologists.

Throughout August, visitors helped us document as many species as possible across our 200-acre campus using iNaturalist. Now, we’re bringing everyone together to reveal our results, highlight surprising finds, recognize standout contributions, and enjoy some ice cream!

Join us on Saturdays during September to count migrating raptors as they pass over Squam Lakes Natural Science Center!

Our data will be submitted to the Hawk Migration Association’s North American raptor migration database to help advance scientific knowledge about raptor populations and migration, and to inform raptor conservation efforts.

Drop-in at the Geology Exhibit to learn hawk identification tips and try your hand at identifying hawks in flight!

Kids’ activities will help budding ornithologists learn to identify raptors in a fun way! Stay for a few minutes or bring a chair and your binoculars and spend a few hours!
