Big Oaks Rescue Farm is a nonprofit rescue and sanctuary for equines and farm animals in South Carolina. Our goals:
* Provide rescue and sanctuary for horses and farm animals who have been or are in danger of becoming abused or neglected. We provide them with a second chance of health, life, and to adopt them out to a loving home or provide sanctuary.
* To promote public awareness about

animal care and animal welfare issues to our community.
* To promote humane treatment and prevent abuse and neglect of animals. Tax-deductible donations can be made to Big Oaks Rescue Farm at 809 Townsend Rd E, Hodges, SC 29653 We are supported through donations and volunteers and have a Guidestar Gold Seal of Transparency for 2021. Buster was adopted by a family after being gelded.
Esther Hanna Sandoval was so kind to provide some information on the Island. Esther wrote:
I’m an Augusta native. This is Stallings Island that sits 8 miles upstream from Augusta, GA in the middle of the Savannah River. The Native Americans lived on this island, and it contains human skeletons so it is a archaeological site and protected. That means no trespassing without permission. Humans do not live on this island anymore, only donkeys. The Archaeological Conservancy purchased this island and placed goats and donkeys on the island to control vegetation. Many people kayak down the river to say hello to the donkeys, never setting foot on the property.

My Son's Horse , Jake is being trained by an awesome Guy, He is very gentle with him , doesn't get in a hurry, This is the third day , Jake is very intelligent, I am so proud to know this Man, I can't speak Spanish so I can't pronounce his name must less spell it, He translates with his phone, He doesn't understand me either so my hand signals come in Handy. We have a good repore with each other , I wouldn't just let anyone train Jake but I feel good about him. I liked him when we first were introduced, Thank you Mary
