Gonna give some credit to a very deserving mare this morning.
I’ve had this girl since she was a yearling, and now she’s six. I started her myself and have done all of her training from the very beginning. She started out as a cow horse, went through the snaffle bit futurity, and since then she’s pretty much done anything and everything I’ve asked of her. Right now, our newest challenge is the barrel pattern.
And I’ll be the first to admit, this is probably the hardest horse I have ever ridden. 😂 She makes me think through EVERYTHING. She has tested my patience more than any horse I’ve ever dealt with, but at the same time, she has taught me more than I could ever put into words. Horses like this will humble you real quick, and in a weird way I can’t thank her enough for being as crazy as she is because she has made me such a better rider.
She learns insanely fast, which is both a blessing and a curse. You better make sure what you’re teaching her is what you actually want, because she’s gonna remember it. She’s also hands down the most athletic horse I’ve ever swung a leg over. She can get right out from under you if she wants to, she’s the turniest thing I’ve ever ridden, and she can really freaking move.
Because of that, putting her on the barrels has been a CHALLENGE. She’s quick, she’s turny, she likes to GO, and if you’re not paying attention she will absolutely leave you sitting at a barrel wondering what just happened. 😂 But lately she’s finally starting to chill out, slow her brain down a little, and actually take some criticism instead of thinking she already knows everything.
I’m so proud of how far she’s come, and I seriously cannot wait to see what she turns into once we get everything put together. She is an absolute freak of an athlete, and as difficult as she can be, I wouldn’t trade what she’s taught me for anything.
I’m pretty damn lucky to call this mare mine. ❤️
