🐍 Rattlesnake Awareness Month 🐍

As the weather warms up, rattlesnakes become more active — and curious pets can be at risk.

Help keep your pets safe by:
✅ Keeping dogs on a leash during walks and hikes
✅ Staying on marked trails
✅ Avoiding tall grass, rocks, and brush piles
✅ Checking your yard before letting pets outside
✅ Calling a veterinarian immediately if your pet is bitten

Signs of a rattlesnake bite may include sudden swelling, pain, bleeding, weakness, drooling, or collapse. Do not try to treat the bite at home. Fast veterinary care is important.

Is your pet’s emergency kit ready?

June is National Pet Preparedness Month, making it the perfect time to prepare for the unexpected. Emergencies can happen quickly, and having supplies ready can save valuable time when your pet needs you most.

A pet emergency kit should include:

🐾 Food and water for 3–7 days
🐾 Medications
🐾 Medical records and vaccine history
🐾 Leash, harness, and collar with ID tags
🐾 Comfort items like a blanket or favorite toy
🐾 Carrier or crate
🐾 Waste bags, litter, or cleanup supplies

Prepared pets are safer pets. Take a few minutes this week to check your supplies, update your pet’s records, and make sure everything is easy to grab in an emergency.

What’s one item already in your pet’s emergency kit?

DRUM ROLL PLEASE:

We’re proud to welcome Dr. Keegan Taylor to our growing team 💙

Dr. Keegan and Eden Taylor are excited to become part of our community, and we’re so happy to welcome them both.

Keegan grew up in northern New Mexico and has always had a passion for the outdoors and working with animals. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Colorado State University in 2019, completed his master’s in Animal Science at New Mexico State University in 2022, and just graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine.

Eden was born in Amarillo, Texas, and moved to northern New Mexico in 2008. She graduated from New Mexico State University in 2022 with a degree in Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business. She now works in the Business Office at Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine managing budgets for the Office of Clinical Programs.

Keegan and Eden first met in high school, later reconnected in college, and were married in May 2021. They share a deep appreciation for animals, agriculture, and the hard-working people who make up those communities. Outside of work, they love spending time outdoors hiking, backpacking, and exploring with their two dogs.

Both are passionate about veterinary medicine and are excited to return to New Mexico and join the Hobbs community. They look forward to meeting everyone, building relationships, and becoming part of the Double J family!
