We said bye to Sabrina today, who had a great 2 weeks with us! Sabrina is a 4th year veterinary student at NCSU. She is interested in rural mixed animal practice and is focusing on eastern NC as her post-graduation location. We all know that she is needed in that area! Sabrina helped with multiple surgeries while she was with us, including this equine enucleation.

We had a star patient recently, who presented to us for removal of his right eye (enucleation) after a long battle with immune-mediated keratitis (IMMK). As you can see in the first picture, he also had a growing sarcoid above the right eyelid. His owner had tried all suggested topicals and management practices, but he continued to get corneal ulcers in that eye. The enucleation went smoothly and was performed under standing sedation with appropriate blocks. We take out his sutures this Friday!

We've had the pleasure of having 4th year vet student Desiree' with us for the past few weeks! She is from Georgia and is doing her clinical year at NC State after spending the last 3 years at St. George's University. She is most interested in small animal practice, but has an equine and small ruminant interest. She has gotten to see and help with all kinds of procedures while with us, including an equine enucleation and multiple gastroscopies.
