This weekend in Laconia, an entire downtown is getting ready to glow with jack-o'-lanterns! πβ¨
And if you love everything about a New Hampshire October, we have a pretty wonderful reason to get out of the house.
The Laconia Pumpkin Festival returns October 23β24, bringing two days of pumpkins, costumes, music, food, and fall festivities to the heart of the Lakes Region.
But there's one moment that makes this celebration especially memorable.
Saturday evening, as daylight fades over downtown Laconia, the giant pumpkin tower in Veterans Square comes to life.
Row after row of carved jack-o'-lanterns light up, their funny, spooky, and sometimes wonderfully ridiculous faces glowing against the night.
It's the kind of sight that makes everyone stop, look up, and reach for their cameras.
And the fun starts long before sunset.
During the day, downtown fills with food trucks, local vendors, live entertainment, Halloween costumes, arts and crafts, and plenty of reasons to wander from one end of the festival to the other.
There are costume parades for kids AND dogs, dancing witches, a pumpkin-themed road race, family activities, and a juried craft and art show at the historic Belknap Mill.
You'll find people sampling fall treats, browsing local shops, laughing at the costumes, and deciding what to see next.
And when the sun goes down, the celebration takes on a whole different personality.
Colorful lights brighten the streets, the pumpkins begin to glow, and the evening entertainment keeps the fun going.
Here's how we'd enjoy it.
Arrive Saturday afternoon, take your time exploring downtown, find something delicious from a food truck, and make your way toward Veterans Square before the pumpkin tower lighting at 5:45 PM.
Then stay a little longer to enjoy Laconia all lit up for Halloween.
You could certainly make a day of it, but it's that transition from a lively fall afternoon to a glowing October night that makes this one especially fun to imagine.
And you don't have to wait for next year.
It's happening THIS WEEKEND! ππ
