How do we help you find your German Shepherd puppy? We get to know both ends of the leash. 🐾🤎
Here at Salty Raccoon Ranch in Hillsboro, Indiana, our puppies are born and raised inside our family home. We’re there for their first breaths, first wobbly steps, and first attempts at becoming ranch management. Some submit their applications early! 😉
Through Puppy Culture, Avidog, early scent experiences, household activities, and gradual introductions to ranch life, we watch each puppy’s personality unfold.
We notice how they explore, approach challenges, connect with people, recover from surprises, and settle after an adventure. Those everyday moments help us understand the individual puppy behind those adorable ears.
Then we get to know your family.
Do you have children or other animals? What does your daily routine look like? Are you hoping for a service dog prospect, a sport partner, ranch hand or a family companion for chores and evening couch time?
Being a treasured family dog is an important job, and those puppies deserve just as much thought in matching. 🤎
At around 7–8 weeks, our structured temperament and scent aptitude evaluations add to what we’ve observed while raising the litter.
And yes—your preferences matter! We want to hear which puppies catch your eye and what you love about them. We bring our observations and experience to the conversation so we can work together toward a suitable match.
A visit gives you a little snapshot. That sleepy sweetheart in your lap might have just finished organizing the morning’s puppy shenanigans! Living alongside them helps us put those moments into perspective.
Over 30 years of breeding and training dogs have taught us how much a thoughtful match matters. We’re thinking about the everyday life you’ll share long after those tiny paws grow up.
Puppies are still developing, and no evaluation can predict everything about their future. Raising a dog takes patience, training, and partnership—which is why our lifetime support continues long after pickup day.
