The following is from the owner of Mantis now Ellie from Guardians of the Galaxy litter (Reno x Tyke May 25, 2026), 5 months old on an out of state hunting trip.

“I am fortunate to have private access to some of the best bird habitat in North America, and am extremely grateful for it. That said, while it's critical to manage expectations with new pups and be very forgiving, whats also important is do not underestimate their ability, even at such a young age

Ellie, originally Mantis, is doing unbelievable on her first couple days of wild birds. Absolute pointing machine, knows what she's doing. Great long retrieve today on a crippled rooster, 150 or so yard chase across wheat stubble, started scent trailing it from where it went down and then the chase was on, she caught the still very lively rooster and brought it back to me, well to the vicinity anyway. Still doesn't like giving them up but the bird drive is fantastic and clearly learning the difference between chasing cripples and pointing the rest of the time.

I'm blessed as it's clear she is going to be a good one, a real good one. She's got pheasants, sharptails, partridge, and pigeons this trip

Give your pup a hug and some treats tonight, they are simply amazing”

He texted again and he shot a limit of pheasants all over points and she had between 15 and 20 hen points. She a rockstar.

Everything isn’t glamorous, but following the GWP’s while trying to chase some birds always has some level of excitement.
