We dodged the rain sprinkles today and enjoyed some beautiful, moody fall weather at Homeschool Horse Club! 🍂🐴
The HHC kiddos headed out for a trail ride and got some practice with their leading skills along the way!
🤔 Why do we have ground buddies on trail rides?
Our general rule is that unless a rider can independently walk, trot, and canter in the arena, we prefer they have a ground buddy along for support.
Our lesson horses are AMAZING! ❤️ But horses are prey animals with a strong instinct to flee when they sense danger. And if we are being real...they're pretty convinced there are lions hiding behind every bush!
Having a ground buddy provides an extra layer of safety and reassurance for our less experienced riders, just in case things get a little spooky.
Additionally, it gave our kiddos an opportunity to practice their horsemanship skills from the ground, too!
More confidence in the saddle, better leading skills on the ground, and happy horses enjoying a change of scenery.
Win-win! ❤️🐴
