🐾 Come along with me for a day full of dog training and walking! 🐾

Ever wonder what a typical day looks like for a dog trainer and walker in Central New Hampshire? Here’s a little glimpse behind the scenes of a busy day with Smith River Pet Care & Training!

On this particular day, I had:
🐶 1 private training session
🐾 3 Bootcamp sessions
🚶‍♀️ 3 dog walks
💛 And, of course, a nice walk to end the day with my own little Spud guy!

Every day looks a little different, and that’s one of the things I love about what I do! I get to work with so many amazing dogs, help them learn new skills, and make sure they get the exercise, enrichment, and care they need.

One of my favorite things to teach a dog is the “Wait” command! 🐾 It’s such a useful skill that can come in handy in so many different situations.

Waiting at doors in the house or before getting out of the car, waiting at a gate, pausing on a walk while you tie your shoe or grab something, and so much more!

One of my favorite parts is seeing the focus your dog gives you as they wait for their release cue. It’s such a great moment of teamwork and communication between you and your pup! ❤️

Bonus: teaching your dog to wait also comes in handy when you want to pose them for some pretty stunning pictures! 📸 Just ask Spud Dog all about it. 😂🐶

Spud and I wanted to remind everyone that our first round of group obedience classes at Meredith Parks and Recreation is coming up quickly! 🐾 We still have space available in both classes, and we would love to have you and your pup join us!

Our classes will focus on building fundamental obedience skills, including name recognition, coming when called, sit, down, stay, loose leash walking, proper greetings, and leave it.

🐶 Puppy Level 1 will give special attention to positive socialization with other puppies, learning appropriate play and interactions, and building a strong foundation for future training.

🐕 Adult Level 1 will focus on those same foundational skills, with extra attention to focusing on their owners and practicing calm behavior around other dogs and people.

🐾 We still have room in our upcoming group obedience classes starting THIS Sunday, October 18th! 🐾

Whether you’re just getting started with your pup or looking to build on the skills you already have, we have classes for all experience levels! From our Level 1 beginner classes to Level 2 and our AKC Canine Good Citizen prep class, there’s something for everyone.

For those not about to do a multi-week course, we offer drop-in classes that allow you to join us for a single session focused on specific skills and fun training activities!

📍 Classes are held at TTCC in Bristol, NH.

I love getting to see these three happy faces! 🐾 Popito, Remy, and Jojo are some big pups with some big energy to match!

Whenever I stop in to see them, we start with a nice, long walk before finishing up with some fetch, which is Popito’s absolute favorite! Jojo loves joining in on the fetch fun, while Remy is usually happiest sticking close to me and soaking up all the pets. ❤️

I love getting to spend time with each of their unique personalities and making sure everyone gets to enjoy their visit in their own way! 🐶💕

This week has been the week of Bootcamp sessions, and I’m loving every minute of it! 🐾

Today, I had Bootcamp sessions with Zamboni, Wren, and Roscoe, and I wanted to show off Roscoe from his session today!

We’ve been working on building his recall skills, with today’s session focusing on rewarding voluntary check-ins and responding when called. Roscoe did AMAZING with both! 🎉 It’s always so rewarding to see these skills come together as we continue building a strong foundation.

Losing Syd last week has been incredibly hard, but one thing that has brought me comfort is getting to spend time with all the amazing animals I’ve had the privilege of building bonds with over the years. ❤️

Having these familiar faces to see and care for has helped bring some normalcy and routine to my days, and that has been incredibly helpful during such a difficult time. I’m so grateful for the connections I’ve made with each of these animals and for the little bit of comfort they’ve brought me over the past week.

Everyone say hello to Nala and Lexi! 🐾

Sad post incoming. ❤️

Earlier this week, I had to say goodbye to my best friend of the last 12 years.

Sydney joined my life while I was still in my teens, so he experienced all of the turmoil and triumphs of my early adult life right alongside me. He was always my constant, my steady rock through everything. I knew I could always turn to my best boy when things got hard, or when I had something to celebrate.

I’m devastated that he is gone. He was such a huge part of who I am, and he played a bigger role in shaping my life and my love for working with dogs than I think I ever fully realized.

Sydney was a nervous puppy when he joined me, which forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and learn how to help him when I didn’t always know how. He helped shape my love for rescue dogs, for understanding how dogs learn, and for helping people better understand their own dogs. In so many ways, he helped lead me to where I am today.

He was the best gift I could have ever imagined, and I am so incredibly thankful that I got to share 12 years of life with him, even if it will never feel like long enough.

I appreciate everyone’s patience with me over the coming weeks as I get back on my feet and learn how to navigate life without my rock by my side. To everyone who has already reached out with nothing but kindness, love, and support, I cannot thank you enough. It truly means more to me than I can put into words. ❤️

I love you forever, my best boy. I’m so lucky I got to be your person. ❤️
