Last week, the team from Stratagon rolled up their sleeves and joined us at our Pershing Street greenhouses to help sow fall and winter crops. Their volunteer service was part of their Founding Day celebration on October 14, bringing employees together for a hands-on opportunity to give back to the High Point community. Among the volunteers was Mayor Cyril Jefferson, who joined in the work of planting seeds and growing community alongside the Stratagon team.

Founded on a commitment to helping others find resourceful solutions to complex challenges, Stratagon continues to live out its core values of a growth mindset, teamwork, and dedication to success. Those values are a natural fit with Growing High Point’s mission, making this partnership especially meaningful.

We’re grateful for Stratagon’s support and for the time spent in fellowship on the farm. The seeds planted this week will help nourish our community in the months ahead. 💚

We’re excited to share that Sydney Wray, pictured here on the right with a guest at our Harvest Party, has been promoted to Director of Market Operations for Growing High Point! In her new role, Sydney oversees all of GHP’s markets, including our online produce stand, our booth at the High Point Farmers Market, Growdega, and our food hub.

Sydney joined Growing High Point in June 2025 as a Growdega Associate and quickly demonstrated her leadership and commitment to serving our community. Earlier this year, she was promoted to Growdega Store Manager, and now she steps into this expanded leadership role.

“I love serving the community with Growdega,” said Sydney.

Originally from Charlotte, Sydney moved to High Point to attend UNC Greensboro. She has also contributed her talents to PDY&F Garden and Bennett College. Please join us in congratulating Sydney on this well-deserved promotion! We’re grateful for her passion, dedication, and commitment to building a stronger, healthier community through local food access. 💚

We recently welcomed students and teachers from Trinity High School’s Academy of Hospitality & Tourism to White Oak Farm for an afternoon of learning, exploring, and connecting!

During their visit, students got an up-close look at Growing High Point’s work and learned more about urban farming, sustainable agricultural practices, and our efforts to make fresh, healthy food more accessible throughout our community. The experience also gave students an opportunity to see concepts from their Sustainable Tourism course come to life outside of the classroom.

Following the visit, Trinity High School Business and Marketing Teacher Riley Grubb shared that the group left “more educated on urban farming, sustainable agricultural practices, and making healthy food more accessible overall.”

We loved having the opportunity to share our work with such an engaged group of students and educators. Thank you to Trinity High School for spending the afternoon with us and to our Growing High Point team for sharing their knowledge and experiences! We hope experiences like these continue to inspire young people to think about the connections between agriculture, sustainability, healthy communities, and the future of our local food system. 🌱

We’re excited to share that the City of High Point has awarded Growing High Point $13,750 to support our Youth Employment Program!

This investment will help ensure that our 30 youth employees can continue to Earn Green and Grow Green year-round through meaningful work, hands-on learning, and leadership development opportunities. Funding will also allow us to expand enrichment activities, including winter cooking classes, and strengthen partnerships with local organizations that help young people discover how they can become changemakers in their community.

Thank you to the City of High Point for investing in our youth and helping cultivate the next generation of leaders. 💚

The Gardening and Food Justice class from Bennett College, taught by Dr. Anne Hayes and GHP’s own Sydney Wray (our new Director of Market Operations), learned about GHP’s Seed to Sale philosophy of urban agriculture from Director of Farm Operations Amanda Mitchell. They toured the food hub and White Oak Farm, visited Growdega, and purchased locally grown and packaged loose leaf teas. It’s always incredibly fulfilling to meet college students who are so passionate about sustainable food systems!

Meet Dayana Jo Marvin, one of our youth employees! Dayana has been part of the team for four months and has enjoyed the experiences she has gained along the way.
When asked what she has enjoyed most about her time with us, Dayana simply shared, “The experiences.” From building new skills to being part of the team, these opportunities provide valuable experiences that can help young people grow both personally and professionally. We’re grateful to have Dayana on our team and look forward to seeing where these experiences take her next!

We’re excited to celebrate a special milestone for Nia Kiara Cole, who operates Kin & Flo Farm on Penny Road! Nia recently sold her first harvest to the Growing High Point Food Hub. This harvest represents the hard work of Nia, GHP’s FarmHers and Youth Employees, and WRLP’s Tomorrow’s Titans as they work together to return fallow ground to productive farmland. We’re so proud of Nia for returning to High Point with the goal of revitalizing her family farm and creating a place where new farmers can learn, grow, and build their own agricultural futures. 🌱
