For the past four months, Danielle Davenport has been a dedicated member of the Growing High Point youth team, bringing curiosity, teamwork, and a willingness to learn to every site she visits. Her favorite part of the job? Meeting new people and working together- especially with the Wednesday crew at Beeson Farm.

Danielle is building confidence each week, learning to identify plants, care for vegetables, and even pull weeds the right way. Even though the outdoors isn’t her favorite place, she loves seeing the difference their work makes in the community. The friendships, lessons, and teamwork she’s gained will stay with her long into the future. We’re grateful to have her on the team!

This summer, Peyton Bluethenthal has been a dedicated farm hand with Growing High Point, building on several years of volunteering with our team. Peyton brings steady commitment, curiosity, and a genuine love for hands‑on work. When asked what motivates them, Peyton shared that “it’s very rewarding to work with my hands and help out my city.”

Outside of farm work, Peyton is a talented sewer with hopes of turning that passion into a future business. Their creativity, work ethic, and community‑minded approach make Peyton a standout member of our youth team! 🌱✨

Back to the Land offers a one‑of‑a‑kind farm experience and meal designed to reconnect families with the roots of our food system. Spend the day learning where your food comes from through storytelling, ethical harvesting, hands‑on processing, and community dining. This immersive event honors traditional foodways, the life of the animals that nourish us, and the food sovereignty skills that have sustained communities for generations. It’s a powerful opportunity to learn, connect, and build knowledge together.

Each registered family will take part in a full guided experience and leave with a pasture‑raised chicken to take home.

Registration includes:
Guided farm tour
Storytelling + community conversations
Ethical chicken harvesting workshop
Hands‑on processing education
Farm‑to‑table community dinner
One pasture‑raised chicken to take home

If you’re unable to attend, please share the event or use the payment link to make a sponsorship donation. Several chickens will be gifted to TC Community Table, which feeds 80–100 families twice a week in the historic Washington Street community.

Our Growing High Point youth employees recently spent the day at N.C. A&T University Farm for an in‑depth, hands‑on tour led by Mark Paylor. They explored large‑scale agricultural operations, learned about modern growing practices and farm technology, and walked through production areas, equipment, and research plots.

This experience was made possible by Resilience High Point / The Bridge, which coordinated the visit and provided transportation so every student could participate. Opportunities like this help our youth see how their work fits into the broader food system and spark new ideas for their future. 🌱✨
