🐾 Meet John & Schatzi! 💕🩺

Schatzi was a brave girl during her visit with us—and she did more than just receive care… she became a learning opportunity for the next generation of veterinary professionals! 🎓🐶

With guidance from our veterinary team, one of our App State students had the opportunity to learn how to properly set up a patient for anesthesia and practice anesthesia monitoring—an invaluable hands-on experience! 🩺✨

But Schatzi wasn’t done being a superstar!
She was also crossmatched to see if she could become a blood donor for our hospital’s blood donor program. If she’s a good candidate, Schatzi could help provide lifesaving blood products to other pets in need. 🐾

A brave pup, a dedicated owner, and a future veterinary professional all coming together to make a difference. We’re so proud of you, Schatzi! 🐾

Meet Penny! 💕🐾

This adorable 3.5-month-old Doberman came to us with vomiting and diarrhea. Since she’s still so young and hasn’t completed her vaccines, we tested her for Parvo and took radiographs to make sure there wasn’t a foreign object causing a blockage.

Thankfully, all of Penny’s diagnostics looked great! 🎉 She headed home with a probiotic to help settle her tummy and an antiemetic to help with the nausea.

But honestly… can we talk about those ears?! 👂💕 Her taped ears are part of her ear-cropping aftercare, helping support them as they heal and stand properly.

And even though she wasn’t feeling her best, Penny still had plenty of personality to show off! At just 15 weeks old, she already knows sit and paw! 🐶👏

❤️Meet Lyla!❤️

This sweet girl came to see us after having an allergic reaction—and while Lyla normally has those adorable little “swollen” wrinkles on her face, Mom knew right away that something wasn’t quite right and brought her in to get checked out.
When Lyla first arrived, she was so swollen that she literally couldn’t see! But that didn’t stop her from being the happiest little wiggle butt in the room.

We gave Lyla some injections to help with her allergic reaction and kept a close eye on her to make sure the swelling started to go down. While she waited, she enjoyed some water, happily accepted a few treats from Katie, and showed off her impressive manners. She sat beautifully, knew how to shake, and kept that little tail wiggling the whole time!

Allergic reactions can become serious very quickly, so recognizing the signs and getting your pet seen right away is incredibly important. We were so happy to get Lyla the care she needed—and of course, a few extra kisses were included in her treatment plan.

Because how could you NOT love that face on a good day… but somehow she’s even more adorable when she’s extra wrinkly! ❤️

"I am beyond grateful for everyone at Carolina Animal Specialty & Emergency. My gentle giant Bristol got bitten by a copperhead snake on Sunday. We rushed (safely of course) to Hickory and they assessed her right away and took great care of her. Everyone on staff was attentive and they let me know what they were doing each step of the way. The cost was provided to me ahead of time and everything was itemized- I really appreciate that! You all are a great team - you are compassionate, knowledgeable, efficient, and you genuinely care about both your patients and their humans!"
