Meet the Team ⭐

This week we’re excited to introduce Chelsea, one of our techs! Chelsea has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician for 20 years and joined the Woodland team in January 2026!

When asked about her favorite part of the job, Chelsea said:

“I love that no two days are the same. Every patient brings a different challenge, and there’s always an opportunity to learn, problem-solve, and make a difference. I also love the connection you build with your patients and knowing that, even though they can’t tell you what they need, you have the skills to help them.”

Outside of Woodland, Chelsea and her husband have two children and live on an acreage with horses, cats, and four dogs, two of which are search and rescue dogs! 🐕🐴🐱

When she’s not at the clinic, you can usually find Chelsea showing horses, gardening, or enjoying just about any outdoor adventure.🌱

We’re so happy to have Chelsea and her years of experience as part of the Woodland team! ❤️🐾

Why does my healthy pet need bloodwork? 🩸💉

Bloodwork isn’t just for sick pets! Routine testing gives us a look at what’s happening inside your pet’s body and can tell us about their red and white blood cells, liver and kidney function, blood sugar, electrolytes, and more.

It also gives us a healthy baseline to compare to over time and can help identify changes before your pet is showing obvious signs of illness. 🐾

🎥 Ever wonder how we actually collect that blood? In this video, we’re showing a jugular blood draw so you can see what the process looks like. The jugular vein allows us to collect the blood we need quickly, and our team uses proper positioning and restraint to help keep the process safe and efficient.

We hope showing a little more of what happens behind the scenes helps you better understand your pet’s care! ❤️

Happy National Veterinary Technician Week! 💙🐾

This week we’re celebrating our incredible Hickman veterinary technicians Sam, Chelsea, Jess, Tara, and Brad! 🎉

Our techs play an important role in nearly every part of patient care. From drawing blood, running lab work, taking X-rays, and assisting with procedures to monitoring anesthesia, providing treatments, educating clients, and making sure our patients feel safe and comfortable, they do just a little bit of everything!

A lot of what they do happens behind the scenes, but their hard work, knowledge, compassion, and dedication make a difference for our patients every single day. ❤️

We’re so grateful to have them on the Woodland team. Help us show them some extra appreciation this week! 🥰

Fun Fact Friday! 🧠

Ever wonder why your dog kicks the grass after they p**p? 💩

They’re not trying to cover up their mess! Dogs have scent glands in their paws, and kicking or scratching the ground helps leave their scent behind. It's basically their way of saying, “Yep, I was here!” 🐾

So next time your dog starts aggressively landscaping after doing their business… now you know why. 😉

We hope everyone has a great weekend, and may your dogs keep their landscaping projects to a minimum! 😅

Happy Wednesday & Pet Obesity Awareness Day! ⚖️🐾

We all know pets can be pretty convincing when there are treats involved… 👀 But keeping them at a healthy weight is an important part of keeping them feeling their best!

A healthy weight can make a big difference for their joints, mobility, energy, and overall health. ❤️

Not sure if your pet is at their ideal weight? Ask us at their next visit! We can help assess their body condition and make recommendations that work for them.

Because sometimes loving them means saying “you’ve had enough treats”… even when they strongly disagree. 😅

October is National Pet Wellness Month! 🩺🐾

Keeping your pet healthy isn’t just about bringing them in when they’re sick. Routine wellness exams give us a chance to check their overall health and monitor things like their weight, teeth, heart, skin, joints, and more.

Preventive care can help us catch potential concerns early and keep your pet happy and healthy through every stage of life. ❤️

National Pet Wellness Month is a great reminder to stay on top of your pet’s routine care! 🐶🐱

Meet the Equipment: Our Microscope! 🔬

Has your dog ever had an ear infection? 👂🐶 When we swab their ears, this is what we’re looking at!

We use our microscope to see what’s hiding in the ear, including yeast and bacteria.

For this patient, we found plenty of yeast and some bacteria. Yeast is often easy to recognize because of its little peanut-shaped appearance 🥜🔬

In the photos, the arrows are pointing to the yeast. Can you spot them?

It’s Walk Your Dog Week! 🐕

Regular walks are great for more than just exercise! They give our dogs a chance to explore, sniff, burn off some energy, and get plenty of mental stimulation. ❤️

They’re also a great opportunity to spend some quality time together… and apparently find something they definitely shouldn’t roll in. 😂

Here are mine enjoying one of their favorite activities!

Where is your dog’s favorite place to go for a walk? 🌳
