Why do you worry?

Do you not believe the Lord, your God, will provide?

Recently, I’ve felt very loved, seen, and convicted in a way. I took a trip 5hrs away a few weeks ago. I packed everything I needed in my bag. Except, I didn’t take my bag. 😅 When I got to where I needed to be, my friend randomly decided she was gonna clean her closet out and gifted me a ton of clothes. Afterwards, I figured it was time to shower and settle in. Went to get my bag and my truck was empty! 🫠🫠 but, it was ok. I had new bras, jeans, shorts, shirts. The only thing I was missing was socks. I had the pair on I wore to drive 5 hrs. I wore those the next day. 😅 the day following I found a pair of socks I’d put in my purse weeks ago. Like, what?! Thank you Jesus for providing all the things I needed. My friend even gifted me a tooth brush cause apparently she’d bought a lot of them!

Then today, I went to a jackpot. CASH ONLY!! No problem, I had plenty in my wallet. Except I left it at home. 😂😂 as you can see, I have an issue with forgetting my things. 😂😭 well, I found $20 in the glovebox, I always leave $20 in the truck. Not enough, though. Then, my husband opened the center console & found $50! Don’t remember putting that there but, yay! I thought surely the fees were less than $70, we are good. Obviously, I wasn’t prepared there either. But, it’s ok! My Jesus was prepared! My fees totaled to $70. It hit me again, he will provide exactly what you need. Sometimes not more but, if it is his will, it will happen! So why do I worry? I have no need, God is GOOD.

Low quality vid, high quality horse!

Koda pulled out a new PR for herself here while 5 months pregnant. Placed 3rd in 3D with some FAST horses. With as much that needs cleaned up… I’m so proud, so impressed actually. Koda works so hard everytime I pull her out.

In horse training it isn’t so much of what you do but, how you do it.

You can drill or train on a horse forever but, they won’t move around correctly til you start riding them right.

So many over think training. They want them broke before they do anything else… truth is, it doesn’t matter how much time you have on the horse to consider them “broke” it’s how you got them broke.

I’m sure so many people get their panties in a wad when they see me starting horses, that have been riding for 2 weeks, on the pattern. Truth is, it doesn’t matter if they were riding for 6 months prior to the pattern if you didn’t ride them right.

At 2 weeks is when my horses seem to understand how to move forward fluidly. They understand how to get soft. They know how to move their shoulders. It’s at that point, I can finish getting them broke on the pattern.

“That will create bad habits.”

Man 🫠 does a “finished” horse not develop bad habits when it isn’t consistently rode correctly? They do! That’s why you just ride the c**ts correctly lol. If they drift out, you stop and correct it. If they shoulder in, you address it. Just cause they’re on the pattern doesn’t mean that training stops. They learn what they need and then they learn how to apply it with more speed.

“You’ll blow them up”

You can blow anything up. A horse that is happy and respects its rider ends up enjoying what they do. Keep them sound, keep them soft, good luck trying to blow that horse up.

It is sure handy to have extra buttons when putting a horse on the pattern but, not needed. At the end of the day training is making the bad hard and the right thing easy. Stay square, get to your spot, don’t lock up those front feet, get to the back of the barrel, plant that inside hind, drive. Everything else is extra, and they can learn that on the way. 😉 **tstarting

Seasoning isn’t all sunshine and rainbows!! We’ve ran inside a bit more lately & first time back out in a large outdoor, Millie wanted to run!! Tried to take me into 2 way early and when I asked her to come out, she came way out! 😂🫠 nonetheless, a 21 something on a standard by a horse who’s been under saddle 6 months… I’ll take it!!! This mare is fast and she felt like she was flying last night!!

Quit waiting for the perfect timing.

When you feel 100%.

Something I’ve learnt this past year is, horses are always hurt, you’ll never have enough money, & idk about you but, I’m exhausted!

I waited way too long to start showing up with this horse of mine. Every year she is another year older. Another day is another day when something could happen to her. I just realized this year, I wanted it. I was just gonna show up.

If I got on my horse and she was off, we take it slow or, maybe, I just got off. But, I showed up.

I have several client horses that show up with imbalanced feet, needing chiropractic, etc. & I’ve dealt with an absurd amount of abscesses this year. But, we show up!!

Just because your horse has limits doesn’t mean they need to totally chill in the pasture/drylot/stall. Get them out and do SOMETHING!!! Simply show up. The amount of progress I’ve made in less than ideal circumstances, 100%, has my horses where they’re at today. Running nice patterns.

If someone had an abscess, that’s tough. We will keep working but, obviously, the horse has a limit to how they can move and what they can do, so we adjust! I have one horse who needs the chiropractor right now, she sat in a pasture for 3 years and I’m sure threw herself out of wack. But, I know where she’s not 100% moving certain ways. We take it easy where she struggles, *chiro is booked😅* She’s also cruising a SUPER clean set right now. Because we show up!!!

I’ve had several come in with wacky feet, SI pain, tight pecs, etc. I fix up their feet asap & get on. We won’t do anything crazy but, we will show up. Feet can typically push a horse back into alignment/soundness in a couple weeks after balanced. It’s beautiful.

If they, to the raw eye, look sound… they’re gonna show up. They don’t need to be 100%. They just have to be there.

The thing is; all these things are temporary. They are short lived. They heal, they can get fixed. However, those 5 minutes walking the pattern, flexing, taking it easy… those are forever. Your horse will remember that you still showed up, we are still wanting progression, still have a job, BUT!!! They will also know that you can and will give them grace. You will listen to their limits and respect their requests.

I am sure this will not resonate with a lot of people. It wouldn’t have with me a couple years ago. However, I spent YEARS waiting for my horse to be 100%. & it broke my heart to think my girl was 90% and didn’t have that last 10. News flash, we ain’t in paradise!! Focus on the 90% you do have. Every time she was 100% we were not prepared to compete! And I mean every single time, we weren’t ready. Over the last 4 years. Not once were we fully prepared when she felt 100%. However, this picture is of her here when she had an abscess on her front left. Pretty sure it blew right in this turn!

THE BEST ULCER PREVENTATIVE?!

Everyone is wanting to spend money on supplements, the next best thing, flashy advertisement… I’m here to tell you, it’s a bunch of baloney!

Forage, 24/7.

Not just the stick at the end of the bale, I mean the good stuff… Constantly.

Often times when you make them clean up the bale, they’re coming off the hay long enough for their stomach acid contents to rise. They’re picking at it. Eating just enough to survive but little enough that they’re not eating ALL the nasty parts of the bale. But, it creates the perfect environment for an ulcer to develop. So, when your horse is low on hay, fill it up.

Yeah I make mine eat all the hay before I throw in a new bale. Sometimes I even don’t realize the big clump of hay in there is too stemmy for them. However, when I know a horse may have come off hay or we’ve been hauling/riding with less than ideal conditions I do have something I feed to “prevent”. But, it’s cheap, not a fancy label, and often times marketed as something else because horse products make money!! 🤑🤑

Bentonite Clay. It is the second best thing you could ever do for a horse who’s been off hay… after putting them back on some good hay of course.

It takes 4 hrs off forage, roughly, for a horses stomach to develop enough acid to create an ulcer in the stomach. If you get that far, again, bentonite clay. I cannot stress it enough even. It is a magical dirt/mud & horses love it. They know they need it even.

All my client horses are on bentonite clay for 60 days. Then, it is only fed as needed. Go buy some, it’ll be your bestie. But first, make sure your horse has good hay in front of them.
