MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is a “superbug” resistant to various antibiotics. At first, these "superbugs" were only contracted in hospitals, but the CDC reports that about 12% are now contracted elsewhere and known as community-associated MRSA, or CA-MRSA. This variety of staph is more threatening, and only 1% of the population carries it on their skin without illness developing.
Our herbs are timeless and time-tested, and we will always need them. They need for us to be in good relationship with the land we live on. This is vital. It is yet one more reason to care for and about the health of our land and water. We need to preserve our most precious assets and resources, and fully understand that these aren’t the things that cost us the most money, such as our cars, houses, and electronic gadgets, but rather the fundamental elements that support life on Earth and surround us with such natural beauty.

During times of grief and heartbreak, herbs can offer comfort and solace. Of course, they aren’t a magical grief eraser. They don’t render us numb, but instead support our journey through these hard times.

I especially love tea when turning to herbs for comfort. The soothing ritual of smelling the herbs, delighting in their beauty as I measure them, and then brewing them into a healing beverage is grounding and reassuring in itself.

Until then, I’d like to offer a bit of unsolicited advice. As important as it is to stay informed right now, I encourage you to find the middle ground of knowing what is happening in the greater world while not losing yourself in the heart wrenching news cycle. Yes, let's support the people who need it and focus on how we can make the world a better place amidst these uncertain times, but also remember to guard ourselves against the paralyzing effects of the 24/7 onslaught of negative news.
