Our pets leave a mark on our hearts that will never fade. WORLD PET MEMORIAL DAY, always on the second Tuesday of June, reminds us that the cost of love is loss. The holiday also offers a chance for us to remember and honor our beloved furbabies who have passed.

HOW TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL PET MEMORIAL DAY ALL MONTH LONG
> Look at old photos of the pets you've loved and lost and share the pictures and stories about them with others and on social media.
> Give extra chin and belly rubs to your current pets.
> Volunteer at a pet shelter or rescue. Find out about volunteering under the 'Volunteer' tab on our website: TailsofHopeWPA.org
> MAKE A MEMORIAL DONATION TO TAILS OF HOPE IN HONOR of the pet/s who are no longer here but remain in your heart. Choose ‘Dedicate my donation’ when making a gift anytime on our website: TailsofHopeWPA.org/donate

If your cat is a cuddler, consider yourself lucky. Not only is cuddling with cats pleasant, it is also believed to be beneficial for human health. But when it comes to showing cats some love, not all cats like a human version of a hug so sometimes it's best to think outside the hug. Another way to give your cat a hug in cat language is to make eye contact with them and offer a slow blink of your eyes. It is said if the cat returns the slow blink, it is a sign of trust and their version of a hug.

Have a happy (and safe!) Hug Your Cat Day!

June is National Pet Preparedness Month to raise awareness of the importance of being prepared for you pet in case of a disaster.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A DISASTER
-Educate yourself, your friends, and your family on the importance of preparing for a disaster.
-When creating an emergency evacuation plan in case of an emergency, include your pet in the plan. Have your Emergency Pet Kit stocked and ready to go.
-In the event of an evacuation, don’t leave your pet behind. If a disaster occurs, you don’t want to leave your pets in a hazardous situation where they may be stuck for days.
-If the evacuation for a particular disaster includes staying in your home, make sure to keep them in a confined space for their safety.
-Have your pets microchipped with current registration so you can find them if they ever gets lost in a disaster.
-Ensure your pets are up-to-date on all of their shots in case they end up at the shelter.
-Register your pet for free on the Petco Love Lost national database.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE UNTHINKABLE
If your pet is lost during a disaster, the “Petco Love Lost” national database uses breakthrough patented facial recognition technology to find missing cats and dogs quicker and easier. This simple-to-use tool is used by animal organizations nationwide, as well as any pet parent or person who finds a lost pet. Uploaded photos of a missing dog or cat are immediately scanned to determine whether the lost pet is at a participating shelter or with a neighbor in the community.

Add your pets to Petco Love Lost to help them get home if they go missing – it’s FREE!
More than 250,000 pets have been reunited with their families thanks to this database!
