A little while ago, I made the tough decision to pull the plug and take some serious time off from Riot’s formal narcotics detection training. And let me tell you—that choice paid off big time! 🎯
When you have a high-drive working puppy, it’s easy to get caught up in the rush of advanced training. But a baby brain can only take so much pressure before it hits a wall.
So, we took a step back. But "time off" didn't mean hitting pause on her brain. 🧠✨
Instead, we shifted our focus entirely to building a rock-solid foundation. We traveled, explored, and kept learning about the world. We practiced public neutrality, built up environmental confidence, and mastered the art of just existing in new places. 🌎🐾
Environmental exposure and world exploration are the absolute most important things you can give a young dog. It builds a resilient, unshakeable pup who can handle anything life throws at them.
Because we took that time to build her confidence outside of the formal arena, Riot is back and bigger than ever! 🔥
We brought the detection odors back out, and her drive, focus, and obsession with the hunt are completely off the charts.
She didn't just pick up where she left off—she came back stronger, sharper, and unstoppable.
Lesson of the day: Never underestimate the power of a strategic reset. 📈
