THE EYES EDITION

Have you ever caught your dog looking at you from across the room?

Those eyes can tell us a lot, but just like the tail and ears, context matters.

👀 Soft or hard: A soft gaze can come with relaxation or connection. A hard, intense stare can happen with excitement, uncertainty or tension.

👀 Looking away: They may be processing something, feeling unsure, trying to avoid interaction or simply checking out what’s happening around them.

👀 Eye shape: Soft, relaxed eyes can look very different from wide, alert eyes. Something interesting, surprising or concerning may have caught their attention.

👀 The whole dog: Relaxed body? Loose tail? Ears forward? Or tense muscles, tucked tail and a closed mouth? The rest of their body helps tell the story.

👀 The moment: What happened right before? A new person? A strange sound? You reached for the leash? Dinner time? Often the answer is hiding in what happened just before the look.

But sometimes…

They’re simply looking at the person they love, and you’ll know it❤️

THE EARS EDITION

Those ears are talking. 👂🐾

Forward. Back. Relaxed. Pinned. Moving around.

But just like the tail, there isn’t one ear position that tells us exactly what a dog is feeling.

Instead, notice the change.

🐾 Position: Forward, back, relaxed or pinned?
🐾 Movement: Are they tracking something or constantly shifting?
🐾 The whole body: Loose and relaxed or tense?
🐾 Context: What happened just before the ears changed?

Sometimes the most important clue isn’t where their ears are.

It’s what changed.

We’ve all been taught that a wagging tail means a happy dog.

But it’s not quite that simple.

Dogs wag their tails when they’re excited, curious, nervous, uncertain and sometimes conflicted.

So when you see that tail moving, here are a few things to consider:

🐾 Speed: Fast or slow?
🐾 Position: High and stiff or low and loose?
🐾 The whole body: Relaxed and wiggly or tense and still?
🐾 Context: What just happened?

The tail is giving us information. We just have to learn how to listen to the whole dog.

🎉 We’re excited to announce… WE’RE OPENING FRIDAYS! 🎉

Starting next week, we’ll be opening our doors on Fridays as a trial! 🐾❤️

We’re doing this to create a little more room in our schedule for new clients while continuing to honor the clients who have been with us and trusted us with their pups.

For now, Fridays are a trial run. If it makes sense for our team and our clients, we’ll keep them!

So if you’d love to see Fridays stick around, please help us spread the word! Share this post, tell a friend, and help us get the word out. 🐶❤️
