Today I groomed a very aggressive dog, and honestly, Charlie’s biggest accomplishment had nothing to do with how perfect his groom looked.
Charlie is a big boy who had previously learned that he could bully just about anyone he encountered. Today, somewhere around halfway through his bath, that bullying stopped.
Was he perfect? Absolutely not. Did he look perfect? Nope. But he made progress.
He allowed me to walk him out to his owner, and—perhaps most importantly—he let me put his harness back on without trying to eat me. 😂
That’s a win.
Real training isn’t always about getting the perfect behavior immediately. Sometimes it’s about recognizing the small changes, building trust, setting boundaries, and celebrating the moments when a dog realizes they don’t have to fight every battle.
It’s the small wins. And those small wins add up. 🐾
