When one Chihuahua puppy comes in for an appointment, it's adorable.

When four Chihuahua puppies come in at the same time? Our team's ability to stay focused is put to the test. 😍

These precious long-haired Chihuahua puppies recently visited our Parham Road location for their puppy wellness care. Early veterinary visits help ensure puppies are growing and developing properly while giving pet parents the guidance they need to keep their new family members healthy.

Puppy appointments also provide valuable opportunities for socialization. Positive experiences with new people, new sights, and gentle handling can help puppies build confidence and make future veterinary visits less stressful.

Plus, our team certainly doesn't mind the extra puppy cuddles. 💕

Did you know our Glen Allen team cares for a wide variety of exotic and pocket pets?

From rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets to birds, hedgehogs, chinchillas, and small reptiles, we provide veterinary care tailored to the unique needs of these special companions.

One of the biggest challenges with exotic pets is that they often hide signs of illness extremely well. In the wild, showing weakness can make them vulnerable, so many pets don't appear sick until a problem has become more serious. That's why regular wellness exams are so important.

Whether your pet hops, chirps, scurries, climbs, or slithers, we're here to help them live a healthy, happy life.

Drop a photo of your exotic or pocket pet in the comments. We'd love to meet them! ❤️

May is Chip Your Pet Month! 🐾

Microchipping is one of the simplest and most effective ways to help ensure a lost pet can find their way back home. A microchip is a tiny device about the size of a grain of rice that is implanted just under your pet’s skin, usually between the shoulder blades. It contains a unique ID number that can be read with a scanner at any veterinary clinic or shelter.

The procedure is quick, safe, and similar to a routine vaccine injection. No surgery or anesthesia is required, and it only takes a few seconds but it can make a lifelong difference.

Once registered with your contact information, that small chip becomes a permanent link between your pet and you.

Locke A. Taylor & Associates offers microchipping to make it easier for lost pets to find their way back home.

If your pet isn’t microchipped yet, or if you’re not sure your information is up to date, give us a call at any of our locations and we'd be happy to help! 🐶🐱

Congratulations to Dr. Owens on completing his 1,000th TTA surgery! 🎉

To celebrate the milestone, he was presented with the highly prestigious “Not My First Rodeo” award. 🤠

A TTA, or Tibial Tuberosity Advancement, is a surgery commonly performed to help stabilize a dog’s knee after a cranial cruciate ligament injury, similar to an ACL tear in people. The procedure helps reduce pain, restore stability, and get dogs back to comfortably using their leg again.

Dr. Owens has a strong interest in orthopedics and extensive hands-on experience with these procedures. In fact, clients have traveled from out of state just to have him repair their dogs’ knees!

Thank you, Dr. Owens, for your skill, consistency, and commitment to every patient. Your work has made a meaningful impact on so many pets and their families, and we are grateful for everything you bring to our team. 🐾

As Veterinary Assistant Week comes to a close, we wanted to recognize some of the incredible veterinary assistants who help care for patients and clients across our three hospitals.

These photos represent just a few of the many veterinary assistants who help make patient care possible every day. Whether they’re helping monitor patients, assisting during procedures, keeping things running smoothly, or offering comfort to nervous pets and their people, their impact is felt throughout the hospital.

While not everyone is pictured, we are incredibly grateful for every veterinary assistant across our locations and all they do for our patients, clients, and staff each day.

Thank you for your hard work, teamwork, and dedication to patient care. 👏👏👏

It’s Veterinary Assistant Week, and we’re celebrating the incredible people who help keep everything moving behind the scenes and on the treatment floor every single day.

Veterinary assistants wear many hats. They help care for patients, support doctors and technicians, comfort nervous pets, assist clients, prepare treatments, keep things organized, and jump in wherever they’re needed most. Their compassion, teamwork, and dedication make a difference for every patient who walks through our doors.

Thank you to our veterinary assistants and to ALL vet assistants for the hard work, kindness, and care you bring to the hospital each day. We appreciate everything you do for our patients, clients, and team. ❤️

Please join us in showing our appreciation in the comments below. 👇

Happy Birthday to Amanda! 🎉🎂

Today we’re celebrating one of our amazing assistants who helps keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

Amanda does so much for our surgery team every single day. She knows each doctor’s surgical preferences, helps manage inventory and special orders, and keeps cases organized and on track. Her hard work, attention to detail, and dedication help make excellent patient care possible.

We truly couldn’t do it without her, and we’re so grateful to have her on our team.

Please join us in wishing Amanda a very happy birthday! 🐾👇

This past weekend, three of our veterinary assistants, Alayna, Lottie, and Lexi, volunteered their time at Goochland Pet Lovers’ Good Neighbor Outreach Clinic.

The Good Neighbor Outreach Program helps provide accessible veterinary care and pet resources to residents of Goochland and Powhatan Counties who may be facing financial hardship or barriers to care. By offering no-cost services like vaccines, wellness support, education, and pet supplies, the program helps keep pets healthy, comfortable, and with the families who love them.

We are incredibly proud of Alayna, Lottie, and Lexi for spending their Saturday giving back and supporting pets and people in our community. Their compassion and dedication are a reflection of the care our team strives to provide both inside and outside the hospital every day.
