Miss Lucy is ROCKING IT!
🐾
When she dropped off yesterday morning it was pretty intense, a lot of growling, barking and lunging at me. After about a 20 minute warm up period I was able to take her leash from her mom and her training journey began!
🐾
Once she entered the kennel room she began barking at the other dogs, once in the kennel she continued to bark and them and at me. On the first day of training I don’t expect much from the dogs but kennel training begins immediately- I can’t have her continuing to stress herself out or stress out the other dogs here. So I began correcting the behavior by making with “no” and correcting with compressed air. It took less than five corrections and then she was able to stop barking begin decompressing in the kennel! Since this initial kennel session she’s needed only two more compressed air corrections. She is now taking food from me and she gets rewarded almost everytime I walk in the room, or another dog walks past her kennel!
🐾
The improvement in her kennel in less than 24 hours was a direct result of BALANCED TRAINING! I try and avoid corrections for the first couple of days a dog is here, but I REFUSE to let her out the other dogs sit in a stressful situation! Since then, she’s done great in the kennel and she’s taking food from me in the kennel. (Shout out to her parents for implementing some food schedule changes at home to help build her food drive!)
🐾
By the end of the day yesterday she warmed up to me and was asking for affection, which I gladly gave her! Today she has begun working for her food and we have done food lure for sit, down and place! I am thrilled with the progress she has made in only about 30 hours! I can’t wait to continue to work with her to build her confidence and make her reactivity a thing of the past once and for all!
