What Is AAHA⁉

AAHA stands for the American Animal Hospital Association. Founded in 1933, AAHA is the organization that accredits companion-animal veterinary hospitals in the United States and Canada. Its purpose is to establish standards that help veterinary hospitals evaluate and continually improve the quality, safety, and consistency of the care they provide. While state regulations establish the requirements veterinary hospitals must meet to practice, AAHA accreditation is voluntary and goes way beyond those basic requirements.

To earn accreditation, a hospital undergoes a comprehensive evaluation against 900+ standards covering areas such as patient care and safety, surgery and anesthesia, dentistry, pharmacy, medical records, infection control, staff training, and hospital operations. Accreditation isn’t a one-time achievement. AAHA-accredited hospitals are expected to maintain these standards and continually evaluate and improve their practices over time. Only about 15% of veterinary hospitals in the U.S. and Canada have taken the voluntary step of becoming AAHA Accredited.

Earning AAHA accreditation is a significant milestone that makes Animal Care Hospital the only locally owned veterinary hospital in Hendersonville with this distinction. AAHA accreditation is a voluntary commitment to excellence that involves an on-site evaluation of more than 900 standards of veterinary care. Our team chose to pursue this accreditation as a reflection of our dedication to quality, patient safety, and exceptional care throughout every aspect of our hospital. But for us, this is about more than earning accreditation. It is about the promise behind it: to never stop improving, to continually raise the standard for ourselves, and to provide every patient entrusted to us with the exceptional, high-quality care they deserve.
