Meet our staff pets!

This distinguished gentleman is Peter Quill. Peter was rescued by Tiffany and immediately imprinted on her heart as well as ours. Mr. Quill is an excellent guardian of the goats, chaser of sticks, and a wonderful lunchtime companion. He loves long walks on the beach, cozy blankets, and a stylish outfit.

Friday FAQ:
Why is preventive medicine better than waiting for an illness?

* Lower Costs - Bringing your pet in for routine wellness exams, vaccines, and parasite prevention is significantly cheaper than emergency visits and surgeries or managing advanced diseases.

* Early Detection - Regular wellness exams and lab work can catch hidden conditions, such as kidney disease, diabetes, or dental decay, before they become severe.

* Longer Lifespan - Being proactive about your pet's routine wellness helps keep the organ systems healthy, thus giving cats and dogs a chance at a longer and more active life.

Friday FAQ: Do indoor pets need vaccines?

The answer is YES! Even if your pet never goes outside, they can still be exposed to dangerous illnesses. And most dogs venture outdoors to use the bathroom.

* Viruses and bacteria, such as parvovirus, can be present on your clothes or shoes, bringing those pathogens into the home. Parvovirus can survive in various environments for several months.

* If you have a wild visitor, such as a mouse or a bat, that slips in the door, then your pet is exposed to the diseases they potentially carry.

* Rabies is required by North Carolina law to be current. If your pet ever sneaks out on an adventure, they are not protected against the animals that are high rabies vectors, such as skunks, raccoons, or bats.

Fun Fact Friday: Snakes use their tongues to smell. They flick their tongue to pick up molecules from the air, ground, or water. They also don't have "ears" that hear sound waves like we do. Instead, bones in their lower jaw pick up vibrations in the ground or water. We're not sure if Brenda is trying to hear Dr. McKee's pulse or just trying to eat his hand.

Puppies and kittens come equipped with lots of energy. Here are some enrichment activities to keep your little one entertained and engaged:

* Muffin Tin Puzzle - Hide pieces of kibble in a metal muffin tin and cover the the cups with tennis balls so your puppy has to move them around to eat.

* Lick Mats - Use plain pureed pumpkin or pet squeeze cheese on a silicone lick mat and freeze it. This will keep your pet occupied with calm licking.

* Crinkly Paper Bags - Put a plain, paper grocery bag on the floor and let your kitten explore and play.

* Window Perch - Set up a secure platform near a window where your kitten can watch a bird feeder. This will provide visual stimulation.

* Rolled Towel - Hide treats in a rolled towel to encourage your puppy to use natural sniffing.
