English and Western are just labels—balance, softness, collection, and impulsion are the foundation of every horse. At Rockin Reegan Horse Training I believe a good relationship between a horse and rider starts from the ground up. A mutual respect is created by doing solid groundwork that consists of a combination of sensitizing and desensitizing exercises. Once I begin riding a horse I build on t

he softness and responsiveness I started on the ground. I strive to help an owner understand how, when, and why I utilize different exercises with their horse to build a healthy working relationship between them. I grew up with a mother who did 3 day eventing and a lifelong cowboy father. This gave me a background with fundamental knowledge of several different English and Western disciplines. Watching my parents combine their knowledge to train horses taught me there is no one single way to get a job done and to approach every horse like the individual they are. This has lead to a passion to continue learning and bettering my skills as a horsewoman.

Yet after laying down, this mare remained there for over an hour, allowing us to witness some incredible behaviors that most people rarely get to see. 🐴✨

When I'm lying here with this horse, my job is to slow my breathing, lower my heart rate, and become someone they can trust. Horses are herd animals.
They look to the members of their herd to decide whether they're safe or if they should react.
When it's just you and your horse, you are their herd.
If your horse doesn't trust you or look to you for guidance, they'll make their own decisions. With a horse that's been described as spooky, that can become dangerous in a hurry.
Leadership isn't about force. It's about becoming the calm your horse can rely on. 🤍🐴

Slip was such a good girl for her first saddling, and an even better teacher for Keira's first time saddling a c**t. 🤍
Like many horses, she gave a little buck when she really used her hind end, but she handled it great and worked right through it.
It was a great learning experience for both of them! 🐴✨
