Your dog has been losing their red toy in the grass for years — and now you know exactly why.

Dogs are not colorblind. But they don't see the world the way we do. While humans have 3 types of color receptors, dogs only have 2. That means they live in a world of blues, yellows, and a lot of muddy browns.

That bright red bone you threw into the grass? To your dog, it looks almost identical to the ground beneath it. They're not being lazy when they can't find it — they literally cannot see it.

Here's what your dog's world actually looks like:

- Red and orange = dark brownish gray
- Green grass = dull yellowish gray
- Blue and yellow = the clearest, most vivid colors they see

So next time you're buying a toy, skip the red. Go for blue or yellow — those are the colors your dog's eyes are actually built for.
