Friends of City of Henderson Animal Control Serving Henderson, TN. Henderson Animal Shelter is a “kill” shelter, but have not had to euthanize since 2012. There are only 5 kennels (runs) here.

We try our hardest to make sure each dog ends up in the best homes! This shelter is ran by one person along with a few volunteers. This shelter only accommodates dogs at this time. Also, we only deal inside the city limits.

Ruby is doing SO much better! Her antibiotics and working, and her hair is starting to grow in healthy, and her skin isn’t nearly as inflamed as when she first came to the shelter.

Shes still hesitant with people, and reactive to other dogs, but we don’t know what all she endured before coming to us. So we’re taking it slow…💕

Our sweet Moby is still waiting on his forever human!

He is our last pup from an animal case we recently helped with..💔

Moby is about 6-7 months old, and he is a love bug. He is still gaining weight to try and catch up on what he missed out on before coming to us. But we are well on our way to a big boy!!😍

He is vaccinated and scheduled to be neutered in the near future.

Moby is a Pyrenees, we believe mixed with another LGD breed. However, Moby seems to be a better family dog than livestock guardian. He is gentle, he tolerates anything, from babies to adults. You name it, Moby loves it. He’s been around all kinds of animals on the farm. He’s a snuggle bug, and wants to be right near his people. He is currently working on house training so he will be the perfect indoor companion!😍🐾

HONEY AND EMBER are back looking for their forever home. Due to no fault of their own, the last home didn’t work out, and they are wanting to find a better fit for Honey and Ember!💕

These two girls are a little over a year old and approximately 40lbs. They are you and adventurous and need a family who will take them on trips and have a lot of fun! Honey love to swim in pools, lakes, you name it, while Ember chooses to watch her sister from the side lines!

They are a pair, and we prefer to keep them together. They do great with other dogs, cats, and kids of all ages. They would love to have kids of their own to play with.

While being in a temporary home, they’ve also been in doggy day care and done fantastic! So these two are very adaptable!😍

🐾 WHY SPAY & NEUTER YOUR PETS? 🐾

If you’ve ever wondered why rescues, shelters, veterinarians, and animal advocates push so hard for spaying and neutering, there’s a very important reason: there are already more animals needing homes than there are homes available.

Every year, countless dogs and cats end up in shelters, dumped, abandoned, or surrendered simply because there aren’t enough responsible homes for them. Many of those animals came from “just one litter.”

Spaying and neutering can:

🐶 Help prevent unwanted litters
🐱 Reduce the number of animals entering overcrowded shelters
❤️ Improve their long-term health and can reduce the risk of certain reproductive cancers and infections
🏡 Help prevent pets from being surrendered when unexpected puppies or kittens arrive
🐾 Reduce roaming and some hormone-driven behaviors
💰 Save you from the costs and responsibility that come with an accidental litter

And yes—mutts need to be fixed too. Being a mixed breed doesn’t make an accidental litter any less likely to contribute to the overpopulation problem.

Spaying and neutering isn’t just about preventing puppies and kittens. It’s also about giving your pet a healthier life. Spaying females eliminates the risk of uterine infections such as pyometra and greatly reduces the risk of mammary cancer when performed at the appropriate age. Neutering males eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and can reduce certain prostate and hormone-related problems.

We absolutely understand that veterinary care can be expensive, and sometimes people genuinely need help finding affordable options. That’s where rescues, low-cost clinics, shelters, and community programs can help. There are resources available—you just have to ask.

The goal isn’t to shame anyone. The goal is to educate and prevent animals from ending up homeless in the first place.

If you aren’t planning to responsibly breed your dog or cat, please consider getting them spayed or neutered. And if you know someone who needs help finding an affordable option, share resources instead of another accidental litter. ❤️

🐾 Fix your pets. Protect their health. Prevent unwanted litters. Help break the cycle of shelter overcrowding. 🐾

It has been brought to our attention that people have made assumptions that we “profit” off of the animals that we adopt out because of our adoption fee.🥴

I wanted to clear the air, and start off by saying- city shelter animals are covered by the city for their basic vetting and spays/neuters, food, and we help with any additional needs or medical bills that may arise.

Now… outside of the city shelter, we solely cover by DONATIONS ONLY. I can guarantee, we NEVER profit off of an animal, no matter what. Check out the picture to show, what goes into a canine we take in. Not every animal needs everything listed, but when they do, it becomes a HEFTY bill! If we charged an adoption fee according to what we put into each animal, then we would never be able to move dogs. Nobody would adopt them if we charged $400/dog or $400/cat. Every animal is spayed/neutered and completely vetted by us, because OUR GOAL is to stop the cycle of unwanted animals in our area.

‼️this is why we ask for donations on about every. single. post‼️ because without donations, we couldn’t make a difference, we couldn’t spay and neuter every dog and cat we cross paths with. We couldn’t TNR feral cats (those cost over $100 each cat, to trap, fix it, and release it back out)

This doesn’t even cover each and every volunteers time and fuel, we don’t ask for that to be covered because we do it for the animals. ❤️

And there’s different fees that aren’t included on this… different medications, different tests, health certificates for transports, animal emergency’s, extra necessities each animal needs. The list goes on…

So before assuming we are making big bucks over here off the animals, think again. 🤔 because there’s more that goes into it than what one may think.

And if this isn’t enough, we got plenty of bills that could use your donations 🙃 or will gladly let you come help for a day and see for yourself what goes into rescue! Us volunteers still have full time jobs, because by no means do we “profit”

We get tired of the nonsense, we get tired of seeing free puppies and kittens, we are exhausted from cleaning up 💩, and yet we continue to show up EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. for the animals. So next time, think twice about what we take on when we offer to take in an animal. 🐾💕
