🚨Red Laser Pointers are not as harmless as you think🚨

International Laser Tag Day PSA: Keep the lasers away from your pups!

It might seem like harmless fun, but laser pointers can actually be harmful for dogs—especially high-drive breeds like GSPs.

Chasing a laser triggers their prey drive… but they never ā€œcatchā€ it, leading to frustration and anxiety

Can create obsessive behaviors like chasing lights and shadows

Dogs may hurt themselves trying to catch something they can’t see, smell, or grab

And yes—lasers can damage their eyes if shined directly

Instead, swap the laser for toys they can catch and win šŸ¶šŸ’›

Let’s keep playtime fun, safe, and rewarding for our GSPs!

Today is day. We celebrate a heartfelt thank you to all our beloved clients who trust us with their pets. We care for each and every one of them as if they are our own.

We don’t just board pets here, we rescue wildlife in need. Here’s a PSA to help if you find an injured animal. Thank you for caring. (Permitted sub-rehabber)

We kindly ask that you do not give or force food or water to any wildlife you find that appears sick, injured, or orphaned.

Babies like the ones in the photos can suffer severe adverse effects,ļæ¼ and even death, when given an improper diet or fed with improper tools or hand feeding positions. ļæ¼

The best thing you can do is gently place the animal in a secure kennel or box lined with a blanket or old T-shirt. If you have a heating pad, you can place it under half the kennel or box to help them maintain a safe body temperature. Keep the container in a quiet, dark place to help reduce stress until you are able to transport them to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

My first rescue as a permitted sub-rehabber for Fort Bend Wildlife Rescue. She is a fighter. Please consider donating for her care, no matter how small. Anything helps pay her Vet bills. Thank you for caring. 🩷

This mother opossum was brutally attacked by a dog Tuesday night. One of our sub permitted rehabbers was nearby and picked her up. She named her ā€œPinkachuā€ because she had four 6 gram ā€œpinkyā€ babies in her pouch.
Unfortunately, two were shaken out by the dog and did not survive. Another passed away the next day in her pouch.

We are trained to treat wounds in wildlife and have fluids, antibiotics and pain medications on hand, so we can deal with most injuries without needing the services of a vet, but Pinkachu was really torn up by the dog. Besides punctures, she had a very deep wound that needed surgery to close. Amazingly, she had no fractures or exposed organs, so we knew she had a chance. We rushed her to our vet the next morning and now she’s sporting a drain and sutures worthy of Frankenstein. The best news is that by saving her, we also saved her surviving pouch baby which is too small to live without mom.

If anyone can or wants to donate for our veterinary expenses and will not find it a burden, we appreciate it very much. We want to stress that you should not donate unless all of your own needs are being met and also some of your wants.

WHY I FROWN ON A RAW DIET FOR YOUR DOGS!
ā€¼ļøRECALLā€¼ļø

FDA ADVISORY: The U.S. FDA is cautioning pet owners that eight samples of Raaw Energy dog food have tested positive for one or more types of pathogenic (harmful) bacteria, specifically: Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes), Salmonella, and Campylobacter jejuni. One sample also contained Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157 bacteria, which may be harmful.

Raaw Energy dog food is ordered via the firm’s website and picked up in person by customers. The products are packaged in either 2-pound or 5-pound clear plastic tubes sealed on each end with a metal clip. Products are sold frozen in brown cardboard boxes containing 10 clear plastic tubes. The cardboard boxes have white stick-on labels identifying the product flavor, ingredients, and date code.

Because Raaw Energy products aren’t labeled with lot codes, different batches of product are distinguishable by a date code (date of manufacture) printed on white stickers on both the individual plastic tubes and the brown cardboard box. MORE: https://bit.ly/4qGLcGA

ā€¼ļøKeep Your Dog Safe During Fireworks šŸŽ†šŸ¾ā€¼ļø

Fireworks can be terrifying for dogs. A little preparation can make a big difference:
• Keep dogs indoors during fireworks—never leave them outside or tied up.
• Create a safe space (crate or quiet room) with familiar bedding and toys.
• Close windows and curtains; use white noise, TV, or music to muffle sounds.
• Make sure ID tags and microchips are up to date in case they escape.
• Exercise earlier in the day to help reduce anxiety later.
• Don’t punish fearful behavior—stay calm and reassuring.
• Talk to your vet about anxiety aids if your dog is especially sensitive.

Let’s keep our pups safe, calm, and home where they belong. ā¤ļø

If administering meds, start the night before, again in the morning and 2 hours prior to dark. This gives the meds time to work and stay active. Especially if administering Trazodone, you need to keep your dog calm and quiet. You cannot give it and exercise your dog, it will not work. Make sure you give with food.
