✨Do they ever calm down? ✨

✨Is it ever quiet in here✨

We get asked this ALL THE TIME and every time we answer with the same thing.. “Yes, it’s not always loud in here, it’s only loud when we do a transfer of dogs in/out or someone comes in and rings our bell.”

During the memorial weekend and this weekend , we had roughly 50/60 dogs staying with us. That within itself just SOUNDS LIKE A MADHOUSE! We know words don’t mean much but we decided to give you guys some peace of mind with a short clip of what it sounds like inside. You’ll see our amazing staff Courtney and Kelli talking about chores but that’s all you hear! We hope to start making more videos like this and more “behind the scenes” of what we really do soon! As always thank you so much for trusting us with your pups and for supporting HDH!🐾

Let’s talk about the “magica hand.”

Well meaning people reach out their hand so a dog can sniff and make friends. For some dogs, that is fine. For others, it is the fastest way to get bitten.

A reaching hand can:
• Feel invasive
• Reduce distance
• Corner the dog
• Predict restraint

Some dogs have learned that biting makes the hand go away quickly.

A better option:
Allow the dog to approach if they choose.
Ignore them until they initiate affiliative behavior.
Watch body language carefully.

And if:
🚫 You are unsure about what you are seeing
🚫 There is a bite history
🚫 Handling is not necessary

Walking away is the safest choice.

Preventing bites is often about reducing unnecessary pressure.

Cooper decided that Krypto was his friend, Krypto is still undecided if he is friends with Cooper. Check back for updates. Lilo is living it up while her humans are away and thinks that a bath before she goes home is completely unnecessary, uncalled for, and, honestly, rude.
