The LCHS is a private, community-based, not-for-profit organization that provides shelter for unwanted and stray animals (primarily dogs and cats) while working to end pet overpopulation, reduce the need for euthanasia, and improve the humane treatment and well-being of companion animals. It serves a population of roughly 70,000 residents in southwestern Montana and a service area covering roughly 5,500 square miles. Since its creation in 1964, LCHS has continued to grow and expand its facilities and programs along with the growth of the community. In an effort to decrease the amount of animals that come through the shelter, we work tirelessly to make sure the pets in our community are vaccinated and spayed and neutered while in our care. LCHS also has a comprehensive foster care program - including day-trips and sleepovers - in order to help meet the needs of all the animals in our care while they wait for their forever homes. We also have multiple specialized personnel who work to socialize, exercise, and train animals in our care, in order to provide the best quality of life for the animals. Did you think kitten season was over just because it got a little chilly?

We have so many cute cats, kittens, (and yes even a very kitty-like dog too) all ready to go home with you!

Feel like your missing out this week? Don't worry, we still have over 80 cats and kittens in foster care and we have taken in over 20 cats and kittens so far THIS WEEK! WOW!

Lewis & Clark Humane Society will be closed Friday, October 23rd, for staff training. We will resume regular business hours on Saturday, October 24th, from 12–4 PM.

‼ BREEZE HAS BEEN ADOPTED ‼

❤️ Breeze is STILL here, and we just can't figure out why!

Just look at how this girl greets her favorite people! 🥹 Breeze has never met a stranger, and she makes sure every single person she meets knows just how happy she is to see them!

She's our longest-term dog, and despite being an absolute ROCKSTAR on day trips, in foster homes, and with our staff, she's still waiting for someone to choose her.

Breeze loves her human pals more than anything. She's playful, affectionate, well-mannered, and always ready to shower you with love (and a few enthusiastic play bows!).

She's got a whole shelter full of friends, but what she really wants is a forever best friend. 🥺

It's hard to get adopted when no one knows you're there. Meet Avery.

This sweet little girl is having a tough time at the shelter. She's overwhelmed by all the noise, activity, and unfamiliar faces, so she spends much of her time hiding. And unfortunately, that means she's getting overlooked.

But here's what we want you to know: There's a wonderful little kitten behind all that shyness, just waiting for someone to give her a chance.

Avery is nervous at first, but with a little patience and gentle encouragement, her sweet, friendly personality starts to shine. She just needs someone willing to let her blossom at her own pace.

We don't know how Avery feels about other pets or children just yet, but slow, thoughtful introductions will help set her up for success.

Please don't overlook the ones who hide. Sometimes the animals who need a home the most are the ones who have the hardest time showing you who they really are.

🖤 Meet Jake & Jamie: Two little survivors looking for their happily ever after!

These two ridiculously soft black kitties have quite the story! Jake and Jamie were rescued from underneath a house that was scheduled to be bulldozed. Thankfully, they made it to safety at LCHS, and now they're ready to find homes of their own!

🖤 Jake is our outgoing little lovebug who absolutely ADORES attention. If you've got hands available for pets, he's your guy!

🖤 Jamie is a little more reserved at first, but give her some time (and maybe a Churu or two), and she'll show you just how sweet she can be!

Both are incredibly soft, love their Churu treats, and are ready to leave their days of hiding under houses behind them.

And here's the best part: Jake and Jamie are NOT a bonded pair! They'd be happy to find a home together, but they're equally happy to go their separate ways.

The second wave of kitten season is here, and we're swimming in hungry little mouths! We're going through kitten food FAST and are almost out of Royal Canin Mother & Baby Cat wet food!

This food is perfect for our tiniest residents learning to eat on their own, and we could really use your help restocking! ❤️
