The LCHS is a private, community-based, not-for-profit organization that provides shelter for unwanted and stray animals (primarily dogs and cats) while working to end pet overpopulation, reduce the need for euthanasia, and improve the humane treatment and well-being of companion animals. It serves a population of roughly 70,000 residents in southwestern Montana and a service area covering roughly

5,500 square miles. Since its creation in 1964, LCHS has continued to grow and expand its facilities and programs along with the growth of the community. In an effort to decrease the amount of animals that come through the shelter, we work tirelessly to make sure the pets in our community are vaccinated and spayed and neutered while in our care. LCHS also has a comprehensive foster care program - including day-trips and sleepovers - in order to help meet the needs of all the animals in our care while they wait for their forever homes. We also have multiple specialized personnel who work to socialize, exercise, and train animals in our care, in order to provide the best quality of life for the animals. If you are interested in adopting an animal you find our adoptable animals at http://www.lchsmontana.org/

Where are our Shepherd people? 🤍

Because Pearl really needs you.

If you’re a Shepherd person, you probably know exactly what we mean when we say Pearl is a quintessential Shepherd. She’s smart, sensitive, active, loyal—and she needs a job, a routine, and a person to call her own.

Right now, the shelter is taking a toll on her. Pearl is becoming increasingly stressed and frustrated here, and this environment just isn’t giving her what she needs to thrive.

Underneath that stress is an incredibly sweet, affectionate girl with so much love to give. With proper introductions, Pearl could happily share her home with other dogs, cats, and kids. She would do best without livestock, as those Shepherd instincts can kick in and she does have a tendency to chase.

Pearl doesn’t need to spend her days frustrated in a kennel. She needs space to move, a brain to keep busy, people to love, and the chance to just be a Shepherd.

We really want to get this girl out of the shelter and into a home where she can settle, decompress, and show someone just how wonderful she is.

Shepherd people—we know you’re out there. Pearl needs one of you. 🤍

If you can’t bring her home, please share. Her person may just not have seen her yet. https://lchsmontana.org/pet/pearl-2/

Goku is having a hard time.

He came to us from a tough situation in Georgia after living a very sheltered life, and the shelter environment has been overwhelming for him. The noise, activity, and constant change are a lot for a dog who hasn’t had much opportunity to experience the world.

At 4 years old, Goku is a sweet, handsome boy who loves being close to his people. More than anything, he needs a quiet, patient home where he can finally exhale, feel safe, and learn that life doesn’t have to be scary.

Goku would do best in a home without a lot of chaos. He can be cautious with other dogs and will need slow, thoughtful introductions. We don’t yet know how he feels about cats.

Underneath all that stress is a good dog who just needs someone willing to give him the time and space to settle in.

We would really love to see Goku out of the shelter and into a home where he can begin to feel like himself again. ❤️

If you think you could be that person for Goku, please come meet him. And if you can’t adopt, sharing his story may help us reach the person who can. https://lchsmontana.org/pet/goku/

🐾 Did you know we have a public after-hours microchip scanning station?

If you find a lost pet after LCHS is closed, you can still stop by and check for a microchip using our public scanner.

Here’s how it works:

1. Keep the animal securely leashed or contained while scanning.
2. Press the center button on the scanner until it begins “Reading.”
3. Sweep the scanner over the animal’s entire body to make sure you don’t miss a chip.
4. Chip or no chip—we’ve got you! Grab the laminated guide at the station for instructions on what to do next.

A quick microchip scan can be the first step in getting a lost pet safely back home. 💛
