Teaching correct collection without killing forward motion đź‘€

Collection is NOT slowing your horse down.
Collection is rebalancing their weight so they can stay powerful, correct, and responsive.

If your horse:
• loses energy when you “collect”
• feels stuck instead of snappy
• needs constant leg just to keep moving

That’s not collection—that’s restriction.

True collection should feel like:
-shorter but stronger strides
-more push from behind
-lighter front end
-instant response when you ask them to go

You should be able to collect your horse and still feel like they want to leave the turn.

Where most of us get this wrong is rating by pulling instead of rebalancing.
Pulling kills drive.
Balance builds power.

Not from holding a horse together and hoping for the best.

You’re not asking your horse to slow down.
You’re asking them to carry themselves better—so speed doesn’t fall apart when it matters.

✨ Correct collection makes horses faster out of the turn, not slower into it.

In honor of the new year, I think it’s time I reintroduce myself! If you’re new here, my name is Daisy Brunson and I am the face behind DownLow Performance Horses.

I trained my first horse when I was 13 and instantly knew I wanted to take things further. 7 years later, I’m still doing what I love I started with DIRT. Now here I am, training my dream futurity prospect.

I didn’t start my brand to blend in. I started it to prove that just because you don’t come from a long history of people who made it doesn’t mean you won’t. I didn’t come from a long line of horsemen but that doesn’t stop me from achieving the same goals, and loving every step of the journey.

This brand is proof that passion, grit, and belief in yourself can take you farther than tradition ever could. So if your all about striving to be the best version of yourself, then your at the right place

Stay original🤍

One thing I really stand behind when it comes to starting a horse is being very dramatic with my cues. Especially when it comes to turning or stopping, I want to make it very obvious what I’m asking.

In this clip you’ll see I don’t have to put much pressure on Millie to get her to tuck her butt under and stop. I just shift my weight back and say woah. After just a couple rides of over exaggerating a good stop, she knows exactly what I’m asking of her. Being clear is key.
