Please help find Murphy a home.
Meet Murphy!
We're looking for a loving, dog-free home for Murphy. He adores people, walks, light hiking, fetch, cuddling, garden hose play, and trips to Home Depot.
Health: He is a healthy, neutered, 23-pound, 4 1/2 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He is up to date on his vaccinations and had his teeth cleaned this year.
Smart and well-trained: Murphy knows sit, come, down, place, stay, shake, step-up, and target touches, and he has good recall. We have trained him under the guidance of a dog behaviorist
and classes. He's fully house-trained and crate-trained, though he prefers to spend his days and nights in our beds. He has no separation anxiety when left alone. He was physically abused by
his first owner, so he can be afraid of brushing and towel drying. However, we have been working with him on this, and now he allows light brushing and towel blotting with treats. He just
needs some patience.
Energy level: Average. He sleeps much of the day but is eager for three walks a day and a few minutes of play/training sessions. He enjoys eating his food in dog puzzles/games and frozen Kongs.
With other animals: Murphy has successfully lived with a cat and isn't reactive to cats on walks, so he'd likely do well with one at home. After 10 months, though, he still doesn't get along with our resident dog, so he needs to be the only dog. He can be reactive to dogs on walks, but we've taught him to look at other dogs for a treat, and he's now a confident walker.
With kids: He loves greeting children on walks, but because of past territorial behavior, a home with young children wouldn't be ideal.
His dream home: Someone with the time, patience, and connection he needs. We prefer experienced dog owners (especially with herding breeds) with time to engage with him. Once
Murphy picks his person, he's fiercely loyal.
We love Murphy and want his transition to be smooth. Please email me for an application or any questions at [email protected].
