Safe lifting after a procedure is crucial to healing! We always recommend no running, no jumping, and restricted activity after any procedure, and your first hurdle you find yourself and pet getting past…happens right in our parking lot.

Cats are really good at hiding pain and illness. By the time you notice changes in eating, drinking, weight, litter box habits, grooming, or behavior, a problem may have already been developing for a while.

That’s why wellness exams matter even for the healthy-looking cat. 🩺

Regular exams give your veterinarian the chance to:

🐾 Monitor weight and overall health
🐾 Check teeth, heart, lungs & abdomen
🐾 Keep vaccines and parasite prevention up to date

The grief we carry in veterinary medicine. 🖤

Grief is something we encounter in veterinary medicine almost every single day.

Sometimes it’s a diagnosis that comes with a timeline much shorter than anyone was prepared for.

Sometimes it’s an end-of-life appointment for a patient we’ve loved, cared for, and watched grow for years.

Sometimes it’s the DOA that gets carried through our doors, and the room suddenly becomes very quiet.

Sometimes it’s watching a family say goodbye while we do everything we can to make those final moments peaceful, dignified, and full of love.

And sometimes… the loss is our own.

We grieve our patients.
We grieve alongside their families.
We grieve the ones we couldn’t save.
And sometimes, we grieve our own.

Our clinic recently experienced that kind of loss with our beloved clinic kitty, Keke. She wasn’t just a cat who lived at the clinic. She was part of our team, part of our everyday routines, and part of the little family we’ve built here. Her absence is felt in ways that are hard to explain to someone who hasn’t worked in a veterinary hospital.

Veterinary medicine teaches us how to care, how to fight, and how to let go.

But there isn’t a textbook that teaches you how to stop loving them after they’re gone.

So if you see your veterinary team get quiet after a difficult appointment, take a little extra time before moving on to the next room, or shed a tear when you think they aren’t looking remember that we are human, too.

We feel these losses.

We carry them with us.

And we keep showing up, loving the next patient just as fiercely. 🖤

🚨 RODENTICIDE AWARENESS: WHAT’S IN YOUR GARAGE? 🚨

As the weather cools down, rodents start looking for warmer places to hide and that means more people reach for rodent bait. 🐁🪤🐭

But what’s convenient for getting rid of mice can be extremely dangerous for our pets. 🐶🐱

Even a small amount of certain rodenticides can cause serious, life-threatening poisoning. And depending on the type of bait, symptoms may not show up right away.

⚠️ If you use rodent bait:
• Keep it completely inaccessible to pets
• Use secure, pet-resistant bait stations
• Never leave loose bait where a curious nose can find it
• Check garages, sheds, barns, and crawl spaces
• Keep the packaging, knowing the exact product can help your veterinarian determine the appropriate treatment

🚨 Think your pet got into rodenticide? Don’t wait for symptoms. Contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital immediately.

And remember: “They seem fine” doesn’t always mean they’re in the clear.

🐾 September is Pet Pain Awareness Month 🐾

One of the hardest things about being a pet owner is that our pets can’t tell us when something hurts.

Pets are incredibly good at hiding pain. Sometimes the signs are subtle:
• Sleeping more than usual
• Not wanting to jump, climb stairs, or play
• Limping or moving differently
• Hiding or becoming less social
• Changes in appetite
• Panting when they haven’t been exercising
• Licking or chewing at one particular area
• Acting grumpy or irritable
• Trouble getting comfortable
• Simply seeming… not quite like themselves

Pain isn’t just something we treat when it becomes an emergency. Recognizing it early can make a huge difference in your pet’s comfort and quality of life.

This month, take a minute to really watch your pet. ❤️
Because sometimes the biggest clue that something hurts is simply that they’re not acting like themselves. And you know your pet best!
