A heartfelt thank you to everyone who showed up last night for the City of Hazlehurst called meeting regarding the Hazlehurst Animal Shelter and, most importantly, for the dogs who depend on all of us. ❤️🐾
It means so much to see members of our community, animal advocates, fellow rescue organizations, and VHAS volunteers come together, share their experiences, educate on best practices, ask questions, and speak from the heart—with just 24 hours’ notice. Thank you!
Our focus has always been the shelter dogs. We want them safe, cared for, and given every opportunity to find rescue or forever homes. Eight were transferred by the City to an out-of-town nonprofit facility, and six have been released to our rescue partners. More updates will come on all of the dogs, but we can happily share that Figaro made transport this morning to a rescue partner!❤️🐾
We’re grateful for the opportunity to continue conversations with City leaders and work toward clear, written policies and better communication so we can avoid this uncertainty, stress and turbulence from the last few days. We appreciate the Hazlehurst City Clerk and City Council for taking the time to listen to the communities concerns and for putting on this important public forum. We appreciate the opportunity to be heard and to have an open dialogue about the shelter.
The City also clarified its intentions regarding the repairs required by the Georgia Department of Agriculture stop order, and we look forward to seeing these renovations drawings, and the construction work move forward, to improve the shelter for its future temporary residents.
Again, thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke up, listened, shared your knowledge, and helped be a voice for the shelter dogs. ❤️
