Why we sacrifice family holidays.

Why we rarely ever take a vacation.

Why even in moments of disagreement, we still come together and push personal issues aside.

Why you donate your money instead of using it for something fun for yourself.

We do it all for these faces and being able to look into their eyes and know they feel safe with us.
Knowing that we would do anything for them.
That even though we shouldn’t be, they know that we are their home however long they need us.

🩵💜WISHLIST WEDNESDAY🩷💛

We normally do not do a wish list Wednesday, but we do have some items we are pretty desperate for at the moment....
I have compiled it all into an Amazon Gift List, but any item on here can also be purchased right here in Hays at Walmart, Tractor Supply, PetSense, and Bomgaars!

Let's break down what we need right now.

🧸DOG TOYS🧸
We decided to pitch most of our dog toys this morning to be able to start fresh. We did this for 2 reasons: First, most of the toys have been with us for a while and are worn down heavily. Second, we want to ensure everything is clean and sanitized. Yes we wash all the toys DAILY, but we want to be extra clean and just start fresh.
We did have some amazing people donate some fresh toys the last few days and we have been keeping those in a separate bin and are officially being used today! We hope we can refill our bin back up with new and exciting toys for our dogs!

🐶DOG FOOD🐶
We have not had to ask for adult large dog food for a while, but it's time we do! We only have a few bags left. We do ask that any dog food donated only be from Purina.
(Purina Dog Chow, Purina One, Purina True Instincts, Purina Pro Plan)
This is what we feed all of our dogs unless they require something else. We used to feed Pedigree, however, we think the ingredients changed as our dogs will no longer eat it. We like to only feed Purina as it is the best option for their stomachs that is affordable.

🌾SPECIAL DIET DOG FOOD🐏
We normally have a small handful of dogs that require special ingredients. I LOVE the Diamond Naturals line. Anytime we have a dog that needs something better than purina, I go straight to Diamond and it has always worked wonders. I also like Eukanuba but Diamond is cheaper.
Our precious Marley has extreme anxiety in her kennel. She constantly paces and jumps. The constant movement and anxiety causes her to burn a ton of calories. When she was on Purina, Marley was eating twice the normal amount for her weight but was still losing weight rapidly. Ever since she's been on Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete, she has gained her weight back and then some!
Appletater has extreme food allergies and a little bit of a sensitive stomach. He has to have food that has no chicken and no corn. He's not picky on the brand but I would prefer he be on Diamond.

🧃PROBIOTICS🧀
The shelter is a stressful place for a lot of the animals. Stress causes both cats and dogs to have loose stool. We want to help those tummies feel the best they can and add probiotics to any stressed animals we can!

🐱CAT LITTER🐱
We burn through cat litter more than you would think. We do like to change out each cat's litter completely after a few days to ensure they are using clean and fresh litter that does not smell.
We do not care what brand of cat litter. Any brand or type will do!

🧽CLEANERS🧽
We always are in need of bleach and window cleaners!

We are always beyond grateful for how supportive this community is. This summer has already been off to a rough start for HSHP, but the support we receive from our friends truly does take a HUGE weight off our shoulders. IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING LULU ADOPTION

We have had quite the interest in Miss Lulu the Shih Tzu!
Because we have several people inquiring, I wanted to share how the process to adopt her will go following HSHP policy:
All approved applicants who arrive ready to enter at 1:00 when we open will be placed into a drawing. The person who is drawn first will get to then go back and meet Lulu and do any meet and greets with current dogs they have if they wish. If you decide after meeting her that she is not the right fit, we will withdraw your application and draw the next name and allow them to do the same. This way Lulu is not being overwhelmed with multiple strange people touching her over and over.

HSHP does not place holds on animals except for some few circumstances. We do not take deposits to hold animals and we will not do a drive hold for Lulu given the amount of people interested.

Lulu will be available for adoption right at 1:00pm today 6-10-26.
We do ask that anyone seriously interested in her be here ready to come in. It is not a race and arriving in the parking lot first does not win you any advantage. We are allowing applications to be submitted early and are actually encouraging it as it will help us to be able to go through all applicants ahead of time. I have provided the link below if you would like to submit an application.

Only one application per household is allowed!

PLEASE REMEMBER TO THINK OF LULU AND WHAT SHE WANTS

Lulu is here for a reason and we are not going to send her back into a home that is similar to the one she left. Her owners knew her best and knew she was not happy living with small children and the chaos of a busy life.

She wants a home that is quiet, mellow, and loved on by gentle hands. If you cannot provide that for her, then please don't apply.

If you have any questions, concerns, or issues with this we do welcome you to call our office and speak to a manager and they will be able to explain or answer any questions you may have.

Little Lulu came in with some severe matting and we got her into see Jane at Hays Vet to get her taken care of!

Lulu is 3 years young and is a purebred female Shih Tzu! She has already been spayed!

Lulu is joining us at HSHP to help her find a home that is more her speed which would preferably be in a home with no small children and a little slower in pace.
Lulu’s mom loved her, but in a home with several small children she could tell Lulu was becoming too overwhelmed with it all.
She decided to do what was best for Lulu and give her a chance at a home where she won’t be so stressed.

Lulu has been nothing but an angel since arriving at HSHP. She is always so happy to see us and loves to be picked up and carried everywhere with you.

Lulu is good with other dogs, cats, and is housebroken!

Now that she is feeling much better after her spa day, she is ready to find that perfect home!

Mia likes her eggs crinkly, squeaky, and plush!

Meet Mia!

This adorable girl is looking for a sweet home where she can receive endless love and snuggles!

Mia is a 5 year old Labrador x Hound mix! She has already been spayed and is current on her vaccines!

Mia and her fur sibling, Blaze, were surrendered to no fault of their own and it was not a decision the family made lightly..

Mia is a very gentle girl looking for a quieter home where she can relax with her favorite stash of toys.
Mia does have a little bit of anxiety when there is thunderstorms, fireworks, and other loud sounds.

She is house broke and kennel trained!

She is very tolerant of her crazy brother Blaze, but will definitely let him know when she has reached her limit of his rough house playing.
She has not met any cats yet!

Miss Mia would be the perfect addition to a home with people who have slowed down in their life and just enjoy leisure time at home!

When you first come through and see Mia in her kennel she will howl at you with wide eyes wondering who the heck you are. However if you go outside with her and give her 2 minutes of sweet talk, she is absolutely in love with you.
She is also easily won over if you hold up her absolute favorite toy in the world (her crinkle egg). 🍳

Mia is definitely a softer girl and while she has shown some nerves with new people, she has never shown any aggression towards us. While she misses her family, she is being so sweet and loving.

We would absolutely appreciate Mia’s post being shared as she deserves an extra push in attention to help her get back into a loving home!

🔥🩵BE AMAZED AND DAZED - ITS BLAZE🩵🔥

We got in a couple new kids at HSHP!

First up is the spunky monkey named Blaze!

Blaze is a 4 year old purebred Boxer! He has not been neutered yet, but we are going to work on getting that done soon!

Blaze has got A LOT to say to you when you first meet him. His excitement filled bark may sound intimidating but he’s just telling you all about the birds, cars, and squirrels he saw.

Blaze’s family was absolutely gutted to have to rehome him and his sister, Mia. It was not a choice they made lightly and we will ensure they go to the best homes!

We are still getting to know Blaze ourselves, but he will thrive in a home that has experience with the boxer breed! While he lived with his sister Mia, Blaze can be unsure about new dogs and has not met any cats.
With how excited he can be, small children are not the best choice.
Blaze is a total ladies man and warms up to women much faster than men, but he did live with a man and adored him!

Blaze is very loyal to the people he loves and will not hesitate to protect them!

He is house trained and knows basic commands!
He also has been to doggy boarding before and does great!
Blaze just needs a to get to know you for like a quick second and then he’s all about the typical boxer behaviors like throwing his body on you and sliding around. His little tail goes a million miles per hour. I’ve been wanting to do something with a fast tail like that and Blaze is the PERFECT wiggle butt for me to try it with so stayed tuned!

We know this boy is stunning and we haven’t had many pure bred Boxers walk through our door, but we are still going to be picky about what home he goes too!

HELP GIANNI AND OLIVIA!

Two of our sweet little regulars have decided to put on a wonderful project that will benefit the dogs at HSHP. Gianni and Olivia come out often and always provide the sweetest love and attention to our animals.
They are asking for Donations of $10, $20, or more to be able to go out and purchase items that will become Dog Care Packages that will be handed out to dogs that are spending their orphanly days waiting for a new forever home.
Your donation will fill a bag with a blanket, a toy, treats, and of course a special visit from Gianni and Olivia themselves!

We are so proud of these two young girls taking the time to work on such a wonderful project! We would love to see them be supported as this a great thing these two young girls are doing for a non-profit in their community!
