Have you met Dr. Rivera yet? 🐶

Originally from Guayama, Puerto Rico, Dr. Rivera began his journey in veterinary medicine by earning his Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he graduated with the Class of 2013 and later earned his Ph.D. in Comparative Biomedical Sciences in 2017, with a focus on Infectious Diseases. 💉

Dr. Rivera joined Country View Veterinary Service in February 2026 and is passionate about building lasting relationships with pets and their families. 💚 He believes that strengthening the human-animal bond is at the heart of exceptional veterinary care and enjoys partnering with clients to find the best solutions for each patient's unique needs. His professional interests include preventive medicine, dermatology, and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Rivera is also vetted and accredited by Hunt.Vet, reflecting his commitment to supporting the hunting dog community. 🦆 Through his collaboration with Hunt.vet, he works closely with hunting dog owners to understand the unique partnership they share with their dogs and provide care tailored to the specific health, performance, and lifestyle needs of these hardworking canines.

Keeping dogs conditioned is a year ‘round pursuit. We keep rolling with the 30/20, even when the team’s calorie demand is reduced in the off season. Why? High fats trigger a gradual upregulation of mitochondria in the myocytes, boosting metabolism and energy production. Not that we need more energy around here currently.

Choosing a performance dog food: “To be blunt, feeding trials are commonly overlooked by smaller pet food companies because they involve significant R&D costs that inhibit the bottom line. It’s far more profitable to let your customers’ dogs demonstrate digestibility with trial by fire on your dime and adjust (or cut bait and disappear from the market) than to make the sizable investment in feeding trials.”

He’s been thinking about you, too… What are your go to strategies for managing your sporting dogs in the off season?

We’re here for the dogs. Connecting hunters with hunting dog veterinarians is what we do. Search for a vet near home or on the road, or recommend a vet to help others in the sporting dog community.
