It’s National Dog Day, so naturally we had to celebrate with two of our favorite clinic dogs, Dr. Tucker’s personal assistants.

They may not answer the phones, restrain for blood draws, or know how to calculate a drug dose… but they are very experienced in supervising the treatment area, accepting snacks, and making sure absolutely nothing productive happens without their approval.

Behind every veterinarian is usually a dog (or two) who has listened to countless work stories, provided emotional support after a long day, and somehow convinced their human that “just one more treat” is a medically necessary intervention.

Today, give your dog an extra belly rub, an extra treat, and a reminder that they are, in fact, the best dog in the entire world.

Because let’s be honest… they already knew that.

🐾FOUND DOG … HELP US GET THIS BABY BACK TO HER FAMILY!🐾

One of our wonderful clients found this sweet girl and is trying to help her find her way home!

She is a reddish-brown with the sweetest face and a very gentle demeanor. She is currently safe and being cared for while we work to locate her family.

Found near Honeycutt and Fred Terry Road in Locust Fork!

Pre-anesthetic Bloodwork

“But my pet is healthy… do they really need bloodwork before anesthesia?”

We sure hope they’re healthy! 😄 But pets are experts at keeping secrets.

Pre-anesthetic bloodwork helps us look under the hood before we hit the “start” button. It checks important things like liver and kidney function, blood sugar, and blood cell counts to make sure your pet is ready for anesthesia.

Think of it like this:
🚗 You wouldn’t head out on a cross-country road trip without a quick safety check of your vehicle.
🐶 And we believe preparation is one of the best ways to keep your pet safe!

Most of the time, everything looks great and we all breathe a little easier. But every now and then, bloodwork catches something we’d never know just by looking at your pet. Finding those hidden issues before anesthesia allows us to choose the safest medications and anesthetic plan or decide to postpone a procedure, if needed. All of this ensures we’re keeping your best friend as safe as possible.

One of our clients found this sweet baby sitting on their doorstep off County Road 45 after all of the fireworks. We know someone is missing this little one, and we’d love to help get them back where they belong. ❤️

🎆🇺🇸 An Open Letter from the Pets of Hayden Vet Clinic 🇺🇸🎆

Dear Humans,
We have some questions…
Why is the sky angry?
Why are you eating hot dogs?
And most importantly… why are you all acting like this is normal?

While you maybe be outside saying, “Oooh!” and “Ahhh!” at fireworks, your pets are likely filing official complaints and possibly updating their emergency evacuation plans.

🐶 Dogs: “The sky is exploding, you all are cooking meat outside and I’m confused. The mailman would never do this!”

🐱 Cats: “I’ve survived toddlers, vacuum cleaners and random guest, with only 9 lives and I’m not wasting another one on this.”

🎇 Fireworks season is one of the busiest times of year for lost pets. A normally calm pet can suddenly become an Olympic-level fence jumper when the booms begin.

Before the festivities start:

✔️ Keep pets indoors
✔️ Check collars, tags, and microchip information
✔️ Set up a cozy hiding spot
✔️ Turn on music or the TV
✔️ Call us if your pet needs extra help staying calm to discuss which option may be most suitable for your furry friend. (Please note that pets must have been examined by one of our veterinarians within the last 12 months before prescription medications can be dispensed.)

At Hayden Veterinary Clinic, we’d much rather see photos of your pets enjoying the holiday than help them reunite with their families after a surprise audition for Homeward Bound!

Remember: Your pets do not know that it’s the 4th of July. They just know this has to be government approved thunder.
