Come bring your pets today for the Purvis Tornado Relief Event!

While our vaccine clinic is a great opportunity to help protect your pets, we also want to remind everyone that we're providing essential pet supplies to families in need.

Even if your pet is already up to date on their vaccines, we encourage you to stop by if you could use extra support! Pet food, supplies, and other resources can make a big difference, and we're here to help keep pets healthier, happier, and at home with the families who love them.

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬:
- June 13th from 1pm - 6pm
- Meeting Room at Purvis Multipurpose Center (43 Central Industrial Row, Purvis)
- For Purvis residents, must have proof of residency
- All services and supplies provided are FREE
- Cats and dogs 8 weeks & older, must be comfortable being handled

No pet should go without the essentials, and no family should feel like they have to choose between caring for their pet and meeting other needs.

Whether you're coming for vaccines, supplies, or both, we're excited to see you here and support our community's pets every way we can. Thank you to Pearl River County SPCA for providing additional pet supplies, as well as Petco Love for providing the free DAPP/FVRCP vaccines!

We just wanted to say a very big, heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s rallied around us this week to help our shelter, our pets, and especially all of the kitties who were left beside our dumpster earlier this week.

Y’all have just absolutely gone above and beyond for both our team and our pets, and we are just so grateful, overwhelmed (in the very best way), and encouraged by the outpouring of kindness, generosity, and support from our incredible community. You have shown up in every possible way, and we could not be more thankful.

From foster families opening their homes to kittens, to friends and neighbors dropping off canned food (over 2,000 cans!), to adopters welcoming a new 4-legged family member (16 adoptions today!), to people choosing to become monthly donors, to supporters sharing our story–it’s really been an awe-inspiring few days, and we just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate every single one of you and the difference you’ve made not only for these cats, but all of the pets in our care.

The last few days have really demonstrated what the power of a community coming together can make possible. And it’s been an incredible thing to be a part of.

And how are the kitties?

Well, we’re happy to report that they are settling in and doing just fine.

With a little food, a comfy bed, and an abundance of chin scritches, the adult cats’ personalities have really started to shine through. They are just a bunch of sweetie pies. If you have been considering adding a feline friend to your family, they are available for adoption now!

As for the kittens, both they and their mamas are starting to look and feel a lot better after a few days in care, and they are just adorably playful and silly. So far we’ve found foster placement for about half of them.

If you’re interested in coming to meet them, these cats, or any of our pets, this weekend, we’d love to have you come out to the shelter and meet the sweet faces you’re helping. We’re open every day of the week, except Wednesdays, from 12pm-5pm.

Just as a reminder, we are running an adoption special this weekend: 50% off adoption fees for all cats and kittens at the shelter, fee-waived adoptions for dogs 20lbs and over, and 50% off adoption fees for all dogs under 20lbs.

Or if you’re interested in fostering, we still have some kittens who need temporary placement. Come on in and see us, and we’ll get you all set up with everything you need to care for these little beans until they are old enough for adoption.

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for partnering with us to bring people and pets together and to give pets in need, like these cats, a second chance.

Looking for a way to make a difference from your couch? We've got a super easy opportunity!

We are getting our Fur Ball fundraising mailer all ready to send, but we could use a little help getting them all put together and ready to go! All of the mailer pieces and labels are sorted into individual trays and are ready to take home and assemble. You can volunteer right from your couch or kitchen table!

Each large tray is worth two volunteer hours and small trays are worth one, so it's a super easy way to make a difference and collect some volunteer hours if you need them!

Mailer trays will be ready for pick-up at our shelter location (1901 N. 31st Avenue) beginning 12pm on Friday, June 12th. Please check in at the shelter office, and our staff will get you all set up with a tray or two...or three! Deadline to return all trays is by 4pm on Thursday, June 18th back at the shelter.

Adoption special starting today at noon! We're kicking off an adoption event this weekend, now through Sunday, 6/14, to help more pets finally find a place to call home.

Dogs over 20 lbs have fee-waived adoption fees, and dogs under 20 lbs are half-price both at the shelter and at our offsite adoption events. All cat adoption fees are half-off onsite at the shelter only.

Visit us all weekend long at the shelter, stop by PetSmart on Saturday and Sunday, or meet adoptable pets at Petco on Saturday. The next chapter for one of our shelter pets could begin with you. Every adoption not only gives a pet a loving home but also helps us welcome the next animal in need.

Due to the recent intake of animals, we're already down to HALF OF OUR LAST BOX of canned kitten pâté.

Yesterday's intake included moms and kittens who will need plenty of food in the days ahead. Our intake isn't slowing down, and while we're hoping to send many of the kittens into foster homes today, we're currently out of canned food to provide our fosters with so they can care for these vulnerable moms and babies.

Thank you to everyone who donated toward the medical care for this newest group of cats and kittens. Because of your generosity, many of our adult cats were able to be spayed and neutered yesterday and will be available for adoption today starting at noon.

Right now, our greatest needs are:
• Canned kitten & cat pâté (not grain-free)
• Canned dog & puppy pâté/chopped food (not grain-free)

If you're able to foster or adopt, we need you. If not, and you're making a trip to the store, please consider picking up boxes of canned pâté for the shelter.

Donations can be dropped off during business hours or sent directly through our Amazon Wishlist: cutt.ly/SPAS_AmazonWishlist. Every can, every foster home, and every adoption makes a difference. Thank you for helping us care for these abandoned animals and giving them the second chance they deserve.

This morning, when staff arrived at the shelter, we found a scene that was equal parts heartbreaking and overwhelming.

Abandoned beside our dumpster were over 30 cats and kittens crammed into just 3 falling apart crates. They were left with no food, water, or shelter in the heat, and several had already escaped when we arrived. The kittens are underage, underweight, and sickly, many covered in wounds and some with their eyes crusted shut.

Despite operating with a very small crew on Wednesdays to clean and care for our residents while we’re closed to the public, our staff immediately shifted into emergency intake mode– finding and catching loose kittens, moving everyone into safer housing, starting medical assessments, separating vulnerable kittens, and preparing food, water, and treatment plans.

To be frank, this will overburden us. The reality is that this group of cats and kittens will need over 30 vaccines, 30 intake exams, 30 spay and neuter surgeries, 30 doses of flea and tick prevention, costly testing and medications to get them well, and hundreds of hours of staff and volunteer care.

We anticipate the cost of care for this single group to be over $15,000. And in the middle of summer when we’re already running on fumes, it feels like too much.

Summer is already one of the most difficult times of year for animal shelters. Donations slow down. Adoptions slow down. Fosters and volunteers are traveling. Intake stays high. An unexpected influx of more than 30 cats and kittens with significant medical needs at once is crippling.

But for the moment, we don’t have time to dwell on that. Instead, our focus has to be on getting these frightened and sick little beans the care that they need. Because they have no idea the struggles that we’re facing, and each and every one of them deserves safety, comfort, medical care, and a chance at a better future.

We're exhausted. We're overwhelmed. But we also can’t help but be hopeful when we look at their little faces.

Because we've seen what this community can do when animals need help.

Today, they need us. And we need you. Please consider fostering, adopting, and/or making a donation today.
