I (Lauren) have had several people who don’t know me personally, have only met me on a farm tour, or heard about our rescue ask details on what happened and what the future of the rescue is, so here goes. On April 20th a person ran a red light and t-boned my car while I was on my way to the farm from dropping my daughter off at school and going to the feed store. I was removed by the jaws of life and life flighted to Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville. They determined that I fractured my C1 in my neck, a brain bleed, broke some ribs, lacerated one lung and fluid in the other, lacerated my liver and spleen, ruptured my bladder, and fractured my pelvis. They put a chest tube in and some screws in my pelvis, along with a neck brace (which is awful). They are hoping the rest heals on its own. I spent 2 weeks at Memorial and then moved to Brooks Rehab so they could help me learn to use a wheelchair, get in and out of it without further damage to the pelvis, and function independently with all the things I have going on. I will potentially be here another week or so and in the meantime have amazing farm sitters and some volunteers taking care of the farm animals. My awesome husband also helps where he can. My equally awesome mom has helped with the kids, me, the house, and projects that have been on the back burner.
I’m hoping I can take back over somewhat in 6ish weeks and give everyone a much needed break.
As far as the future of the rescue, we will not be shutting down or rehoming what animals we have. This is just a blip and we hope this makes the rescue stronger than ever. We greatly appreciate all the well wishes, prayers, messages, cards, and the incredible donations to help us keep these sweet animals fed. Please accept this personal thank you from my hospital bed. I’m grateful for you all. Much love, Lauren
