🚨 Important Pet Health Alert 🚨

The USDA has confirmed the first case of New World Screwworm in a dog in New Mexico and an additional case in a goat in Texas.

New World Screwworm is a serious parasite whose larvae feed on living tissue, causing painful wounds and potentially severe illness in pets, livestock, wildlife, and, in rare cases, people.

Pet owners should inspect their animals regularly and contact their veterinarian immediately if they notice:
🔹 Wounds that are draining or getting larger
🔹 Maggots or egg masses
🔹 Unusual irritation or discomfort
🔹 Lesions around the ears, nose, mouth, or ge***al area

Early detection is critical. While this appears to be an isolated case, veterinarians and animal health officials are actively monitoring the situation.

Is your cat slowing down... or is it arthritis?

Many cat owners assume their cat is "just getting old" when they stop jumping on the bed, hesitate before climbing, struggle getting in and out of the litter box, or seem less active than they used to be. But arthritis could be stealing their comfort and quality of life.

The good news? There are ways to help.

In this reel, I share signs of arthritis to watch for, when to have your cat evaluated, and some of my favorite ways to support comfort and mobility naturally—including Copaiba, AromaTouch, Frankincense, and fish oil.

Your cat may not be able to tell you they're hurting, but they often show us in subtle ways. Watch the reel to learn more! 🐱❤️

Cats are masters at hiding illness.

Many cats continue to eat, drink, use the litter box, and
act normal even when a health issue is developing. By
the time owners notice a problem, it may already be
chronic.

That's why I recommend cats see their veterinarian at
least twice a year. As they age, even more frequent
visits can help us catch subtle changes in weight,
breathing patterns, heart conditions, and other
diseases before they become serious.

And if you've followed me for a while, you know
Frankincense is still my go-to for supporting overall
wellness.

Watch the reel to learn why routine exams are so
important for cats! 🐱❤️

Is your older cat suddenly eating nonstop but still losing weight? 🐱⚠️

Many cat owners assume this is just a normal part of aging, but it can actually be a sign of a very common disease seen in senior cats. Left unchecked, it may even begin affecting the heart, kidneys, and overall quality of life.

In this reel, I’m discussing some of the subtle warning signs I look for as a veterinarian, why these changes happen, and how we commonly help manage the condition so cats can continue living happy, healthy lives. 🩺❤️

If your cat has had changes in appetite, weight, behavior, or coat quality, this is definitely something you’ll want to watch.

Why do dogs eat grass? 🐶🌱

Many pet owners think it’s harmless, but grass eating can actually irritate your dog’s digestive tract. Dogs cannot properly digest grass, and the sharp blades may cause irritation to the stomach and intestines, often leading to vomiting, gagging, or GI upset.

While some dogs may do it out of boredom, habit, anxiety, or stomach discomfort, it’s important to try to discourage excessive grass eating and redirect the behavior when possible. Also remember that lawns may contain pesticides, fertilizers, w**d killers, or parasites that can be harmful to pets.

Keeping your dog mentally stimulated, well exercised, and on a balanced diet can help reduce the urge to graze. 🩺🐾

I have always loved zoos and the incredible role they play in conservation, education, and protecting endangered wildlife for future generations. Reading about the passing of Happy, the beloved Asian elephant at the Bronx Zoo, was truly emotional. 💔🐘

Animals like her do far more than inspire visitors — they help educate millions of people about conservation, habitat preservation, and the importance of protecting vulnerable species around the world.

Happy’s life touched countless people and served as a reminder of the deep intelligence, emotion, and beauty elephants possess. Her legacy will continue through the awareness and appreciation she brought to wildlife conservation efforts everywhere.

Minor cuts, scrapes, hot spots, irritated skin, or healing areas can be so uncomfortable for our pets 🐾 As a veterinarian, I’m always looking for gentle ways to help support the skin’s natural healing process, and one of my favorite things to keep on hand is doTERRA After Sun Spray ☀️

I love using it directly on minor wounds or spraying it onto a cotton ball first and gently applying it to the area. It helps soothe irritated skin and supports healthy healing while keeping the area feeling refreshed and comfortable. I’ve seen so many pets heal beautifully with this simple addition to their care routine.

Always monitor wounds closely and contact your veterinarian if there is swelling, discharge, odor, pain, or if the wound is deep or worsening. 🩺

It’s hard watching our pets slow down as they age 💔… but aging isn’t always the only reason.

Painful dental disease, bacteria from decaying teeth, vision changes, and other underlying health issues can all affect your pet’s energy, mobility, and quality of life. As a veterinarian, I always encourage pet owners to look deeper and not assume “they’re just getting old.”

Regular dental care, wellness exams, and early intervention can make a huge difference in helping our pets stay comfortable and happy for as long as possible. 🐾
