Blue Ridge updated

The Great Dane has an ancient history and archeological evidence has found that Dane-type dogs were used for hunting bears, boars, and bulls. However, over time the Dane was no longer used for hunting, and the breed changed to one of a companion and estate guard dog. Today, Great Danes have a gentle and loving disposition that makes them a wonderful family companion.

Are you interested in this breed? The OFA, working with the Great Dane Club of America, recommends the following basic health screening tests for all breeding stock:
- Hip Dysplasia (OFA or PennHip)
- ACVO Eye Exam
- Cardiac
- Autoimmune thyroiditis

Dogs meeting these basic health screening requirements are issued Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) numbers. For potential puppy buyers, CHIC certification is a good indicator the breeder responsibly factors good health into their selection criteria.

For more information about the Great Dane, please visit the parent club website: https://gdca.org/
For more information about the CHIC program, check out the OFA: https://ofa.org/chic-programs/

PAW PATROL: As our heat wave builds, please be cognizant of where you're walking with your furry friends. While air temperatures might only be in the 90s, both asphalt and concrete will be MUCH hotter, enough to burn your pups paws.

What a great weekend 🥹🥹🥹 so very proud of Groot! I am absolutely thrilled. Saturday he took WD, and Sunday he took WD and was then awarded BOB over some very lovely specials! But if that wasn't enough he went even further receiving a Working Group 4!
So now Pending AKC this has given him his 2nd Major leaving him at 1 point left to finish! So very proud of this boy and how lovely he is, Jess does a phenomenal job handling him!
Official win photos to come!

We had a lovely weekend at the New Castle Kennel Club show, held at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds. Both days Groot picked up one point by going WD and BOW both days. He is now at 10 pts with 1 major.

Congratulations to all winners this weekend! 💜
