Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary

Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary We are a 1,000 acre animal sanctuary in Wyoming - Giving Former Research Animals A Future. Contact us today to find out how you can get involved!

All of the animals at Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary have previously been used in, or were destined to be used in, laboratory research. We have a small but hardworking staff, all of who live on site to provide the animals with the best possible hands-on care. Some of our experienced staff members live with the dogs and work daily on socialization, crate-training, housebreaking, leash-walking, and

basic commands. The cats receive an abundance of play time, trees for climbing, an outdoor space for exploring, and socialization with other cats and visitors. Our horses and other farm animals also receive daily care and socialization. The horses and cows are free to roam most of our 1,000 acres, and the sheep and pigs have access to open grazing land, as well. These animals are visitor favorites and will likely live out their lives at Kindness Ranch. We also provide an adoption program for our cats, dogs, horses, potbelly pigs and occasional small mammals. Those who are too debilitated, old, or ill to be placed in a loving home can remain on the ranch to live out their days, surrounded by caretakers and volunteers who put the animals’ well-being first. We offer unique guest accommodations right on the property for those interested in volunteering, adopting, or otherwise supporting our mission. Our fully-furnished rental cabins are available year-round at competitive rates and deliver a one-of-a-kind experience for visitors of all ages! We are always looking for supporters interested in adopting, fostering, or volunteering.

It's hard to believe that only just a month ago Bingo left behind his life as a research animal and made his way to Kindness Ranch.

Since arriving, Bingo has become incredibly inquisitive and loves spending time lounging around the house with the people that are most important to him. For Bingo, each day marks a new adventure and we can't wait to see which one of our supporters will welcome him into his new forever home.

Thinking about adopting a beagle? Now is the perfect time! Visit KindnessRanch.org and click on the "Adopt" tab. There you can learn more about Bingo, and all of the other former research animals we have available for adoption.

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to one of our beloved residents, August.

August embodied everything Kindness Ranch stands for. After a life shaped by research, she spent her final years surrounded by compassion, comfort, and the freedom to simply be herself.

Here at the sanctuary, she was able to live life on her own terms, and we are grateful to have been part of her journey.

Uno, the First Envigo Beagle, Announces Retirement as Ambassador for Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary

Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary today announces that Uno, the famous former research beagle who captivated hearts nationwide as the first dog released from the historic 2022 Envigo rescue, is officially stepping down from his public ambassador duties.

At just five years old, Uno has already lived a lifetime of advocacy. As the first of nearly 4,000 beagles from the Envigo facility, Uno transformed from an identification tattoo into an international symbol of resilience. Wearing his signature harness, Uno walked the marble halls of the U.S. Capitol to unite lawmakers on animal welfare and showed the world the immense capacity for healing in former laboratory animals.

Recently, diagnostics revealed that Uno is experiencing spinal issues and mobility challenges. Veterinary evaluation indicates these degenerative spinal changes stem from injuries sustained during his time in the breeding facility prior to his release. While his spirit remains as bright and joyful as ever, the resulting stiffness and discomfort mean that travel, public appearances, and long engagement events are no longer in his best interest.

When Uno first assumed his role, Kindness Ranch operated under an unwavering promise: his work as an ambassador would last only as long as he thoroughly enjoyed it. The moment advocacy compromised his physical comfort or well-being, his health and happiness would take absolute priority.

"Uno gave a voice to thousands of animals who didn't have one, but he has borne the physical burden of his past for long enough," says John Ramer, Executive Director of Kindness Ranch. "I promised him that I would never be selfish with his time, his body, or his happiness. He was robbed of a normal puppyhood; he shouldn't have to spend his adult years pushing through pain to work for us. He has more than fulfilled his mission, and now it is time for him to simply be a dog."

Uno’s retirement will be spent doing what he loves most at Kindness Ranch: resting in soft beds, enjoying quiet days in the Wyoming sun, receiving physical care, and relaxing alongside his best friends Cammi, Faith and Lexi..

Though Uno is retiring from public life, his legacy as the "first out" will continue to inspire the mission of Kindness Ranch as we rehabilitate and rehome former research animals.

Supporters wishing to send love to Uno during his retirement are invited to leave messages on Kindness Ranch’s social media pages or support the ongoing care of rescued research animals at kindnessranch.org
