2026 USAWE Region 5 Championship!
3rd overall Intermediate B open!

A cold, freezing show but we made the best of it and still had a ton of fun!
Tom Tyson was even able to come and watch!
We have been working hard all year and steadily getting better and more consistent at Intermediate B. My friends, mentors and fellow trainers were my competition and our bay geldings "the bay boys" got to meet again in the arena
Tough competition, tight scores, and it all came down to speed where I pushed Preacher much faster than I ever had before. It was thrilling and fun but not quite enough to get on the podium this time around.

Congratulations to Erica Peet on the win and Howard Peet on reserve!

Im living the dream getting to down the road on a Good horse and be in the game. If you know me, this was a pipe dream when I was a kid. I have made what I have by the grace of God, the gift or gritt, and a borderline delusional outlook on things and a vision. I still struggle sometimes to be like, "this is real life". I slept in the truck to be able to go to any horse show and cashed out college savings bonds when I was a kid to pay for them. Playing the game, at this levle is a win in and of itself, although I have some things to fix for next time to come back stronger.

My little mustang is such a champ. He really tried his hardest on a super tight coarse, but i could trust him to get it done. I hope everyone gets a horse like him at least once in their life, he has taken me farther than I thought possible and gives me hope that I can take it all the way to Masters.

I really appreciate all the people that follow along and cheer us on. "We love watching you ride" is my favorite compliment. I view this as art, and I love sharing it with you all.

Had a really great time teaching 2 days of Working Equitation at Woodbine Farms this past weekend. Many if the participants were ready to go to a USA Working Equitation - Region 5 show!
Breeds included: fresian percheon cross, Thoroughbred, Dutch harness horse cross, Andalusian, Arabian, waited Morgan, and quarter horses!
We even had 3 generations of riders: a grandma, daughter, and granddaughter!

I always love to see the variety thay come to clinics as well as whatever can get done. Whether its a relaxation technique, better backup, sidepass, or getting a thorough intro to the sport, there is something for everyone at all levles!

I also upgraded to some portable greenery for the shaloms and they were a huge hit and looked awesome!!

24th- matt french and navarro , 6th in speed as well!
27th Robin Bond and Kiger Zapata KCA! Q4th jn dressage as well!

^^ BOTH of these horses are FORMALLY WILD MUSTANGS!!!

Unfortunately DQs in speed put

Anyone who knows me knows I despise the phrase, “ It’s all about the Journey”
While I recognize it is meant to be about seeing joy in your current circumstance, and celebrating the small wins – all things I can get behind and do agree on- I, for the most part, think the phrase is kind of a cop out for not reaching your goals.

Someone has a bad round and they go to complain and then they are met with,

“It’s all about the journey”

Respectfully, I don’t think it is.
I don’t think it is about the destination either for that matter.
If everything were about winning, getting the best score, getting on the team, being “the best” on any given day, month, year, ect. That would be a really punch in the gut when those things inevitably didn’t happen at some point along the way. If your self-worth is wrapped up in an outcome with 1,000 factors associated with it, seems like you would be in a constant start of disappointment. The judge might not like you, your horse could slip, the wind knocked over the switch-a-cup, life isn’t fair, so just because you may be “the best” the outcome may not be to your liking.

Some might say it is semantics but bear with me, I think it is about becoming.

Isn’t that the same as “the journey”- No.

If it is about becoming there is an outcome involved but the outcome is getting to live your life as the person who does the thing you want to do. For example: I want to ride and be competitive at -Insert Level- . Let’s take Intermediate B, the two handed flying change level in WE for example.

First you have to learn a flying change, your horse to learn a flying change, you both have to learn how to do them in different combinations, you have to learn the difference between a clean change and the various problems that can happen and how to fix it. You have to improve your timing, straightness, fitness, you have to do it at home, In lessons, and finally at a show.
When you started you didn’t know how to do it, but you reach a point where you do. The goal is not to flounder around (although there is a lot of that) the goal is to get to a point where you are competent in what you are doing and your problems are that of a person doing that level. You become a person whose problems are straightness in the flying changes, not just a person who is trying flying changes. Everything about what you are doing is focused on reaching a certain level of competency. Granted you then begin the process of becoming something else, something better.

But, in my opinion, the journey, so called, is really only worth it if you become something else out of it, I don’t really think it is about the grind itself, it’s about competency at the end. The grind is necessary to get there, and you should enjoy it, but, well, the view from the top of the mountain is better than when you are climbing up, and you feel a lot better about the climb up once you get there and are on your way down. The climb up was necessary, but isn’t the point in and of itself. Instead of just focusing on the climbing, you get to be the person who summited that mountain. Once you do that, you can think about the experience any way you like.

The Goal isn’t to win, but if you become the person you want to be, winning becomes a whole lot easier. And if you don’t win but you rode up to your ability but it just wasn’t good enough that day, well, I never get mad at that. I like to ride in good company and am thankful to be in the game.

Just my two cents, if you like it use it, if you don’t, as Dougie Hall says, “ Don’t worry about it”.

Would working eq people be intrested in a winter webinar type zoom series for the winter?
If so, what topics would you like to see?

If Interested, I had some ideas for topics:

- success strategies for doing Working eq with an "average" horse and bringing them along thru the levles.


**Confirmation dues and don'ts when selecting a horse on a limited budget


**Groundwork techniques for true calmness around the obstacles

** The cross training that will matter for WE: jumping, sorting, gymkanaha, and trail riding

**The Equitation element: strategies for better position and getting better results

** Voices in your head: how to rewrite the script of "nerves" to get you better prepared to have fun in the show ring

***My personal favorite: Numbers game, how many hours rode, competency, timelines, and targets to hit. This part i feel like i have down to a science!

I could do other things to and would love to hear suggestions, but with my background in self made horses, USAWE BRONZE medalist (hopefully soon Silver medalist) instuctor to folks of all levles for 15 years and clinician this is what I feel i could offer the most to people.

Let me know what you would want, how many topics, how long, ect.

We had a Fantastic Weekend at the working Equitation show at battle creek hunt!
Preacher just tries his heart out for me, and he is my friend; I have never connected with a horse as I have him. God has a plan for it all. I Praise God and rejoice in the opportunity to get to live out dreams I have had since childhood with this incredible partner.
Highlights of the weekend were Two qualifying scores toward my USAWE Silver Lifetime rider medal! I only need one more qualifying score at this level to earn it. I also got a personal best dressage EOH score at Intermediate B of 69.474!
This coarse was all on grass with some varied footing and downhill sections which I have not competed on before in that way but I think it played to my strengths as a rider and the coarse played to Preacher’s strengths to where he is in his training right now. So it was cool for it all to come together for a fabulous score.
Another fun element was I cantered the pen in competition for the first time on day 2!
I cantered it in speed on day 1 to make sure Preacher could handle the turn on the grass and went for it on day 2!
I also was able to canter Preacher thru the water ditch on day 2 in speed by using day 1 speed to trot it to gain confidence so we were able to add another tool to our toolbelt! That is my pro-tip for the speed round if you don’t want to go fast for time, use it to try something a different way or cultivate a different skill and make the time worth it from a training/ horse confidence perspective.
Many of the participants of the show have been clinic attendees of mine over the years, so I was really excited to see fruits of all the work being done to cultivate the sport. Tracy lee worked really hard to get people together from West Michigan and put on a great show!
Like everyone I sometimes get caught in the trap of “ I should be more like so and so” or “ this isn’t good enough” but this show it clicked in my head that I want to be more like myself and focus on what I do well as a rider and competitor. Of course I have a lot of work to go to get to Masters, we are no where near done learning, growing, and changing. I am Gunna seek help from people that know more than me, learn all I can, work on my weaknesses, and take inspiration from friends and mentors who are at the top of their game that I can emulate, but I just had a mental shift: I wanna be more like me. I want to honor the talents that God has given me and celebrate more in the road that got me to where I am. I don’t need to be like other people; I need to be like me.
So, if that helps you on your own journey take it. If you don’t like who you are you can always change, but if you do, embrace it and carry on.
I got an unexpected nickname over the weekend, "Mustang Mistress” I like it, she had no way of knowing her fun comment would have such an impact on me, but I love it! Be unique, celebrate what makes you different.
I grew up clawing and scraping my way to have opportunities to ride, I bought horses I could afford and somehow managed to be successful with them. For reasons I can’t explain Mustangs keep coming into my life and changing it for the better, and other people’s lives down the road by extension. Mustang Mistress

I never have time to take pictures during clinics but I had a blast at Serene Tyme Morgans thus past weekend! Lots of diffrent rider levles which made it fun! Plus all the horses here sidepass o so well thanks to Beth Meyer 's fantastic training.
