is a Black woman and veteran-owned and operated nonprofit organization and urban riding center that provides culturally competent and accessible equine-assisted therapy in an urban community. Ebony Horsewomen has been a fixture in the north end of Hartford, CT, and in the equine therapeutic arena for over 30 years. In addition to equine-assisted therapy and equine

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of a beloved member of our herd, Pegasus. 🐴❤️

Our therapy horses are a special part of the Ebony Horsewomen family, touching the lives of our students, families, clients, volunteers, community and staff. Pegasus was no exception, and we know his loss will be felt by many.

We are grateful for the lives Pegasus touched and the years he spent as part of our EHI family, and he will be deeply missed. 🕊️

The final GALLOP Training sessions of 2026 are coming up this October! 🐎

Mental health professionals interested in expanding their knowledge of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), this is your final opportunity to join us this year.

GALLOP explores equine behavior and body language, horse and human interactions, and the principles of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy through Ebony Horsewomen’s culturally responsive approach.

Museum tours begin Saturday, August 22! We’ll be open Friday through Sunday, from 12 to 4 PM, through November 8.

The Annual Trail Ride is almost here! Join Ebony Horsewomen and 5 Star Horseshoeing on Saturday, August 22 for a scenic ride through Keney Park in support of our Junior Mounted Patrol Program.

And we're happy to announce that there WILL be line dancing! 💃🏾 Admission is $10.

🕘 9 AM to 4 PM | Step-off at 10:00 AM
📍 337 Vine Street, Hartford, CT
💲 Registration fee: $40 per horse
🐎 You must bring your own horse for the trail ride. 5 Star Horseshoeing and Ebony Horsewomen do not provide horses.
🥐 Light continental breakfast for registered riders

No horse? No problem! Come through for the food, vendors, line dancing, and community at the barn. Everyone is welcome!

Our new spindly friend, Bob, has become a fixture in the admin office at Ebony Horsewomen Equestrian and Therapeutic Center and has taken quite a liking to Carleen. Bob has made himself so at home that Kemari built him his own mini mansion. 😂

Bob’s presence has not only taught us a thing or two about how spiders spin their webs, but also inspired our CEO to write a short children’s story, “Bob’s Little Web,” which will soon be available as a downloadable e-book. There’s never a dull or unteachable day at the office. 🕸️🕷️
