is a Black woman and veteran-owned and operated nonprofit organization and urban riding center that provides culturally competent and accessible equine-assisted therapy in an urban community. Ebony Horsewomen has been a fixture in the north end of Hartford, CT, and in the equine therapeutic arena for over 30 years. In addition to equine-assisted therapy and equine

-assisted psychotherapy, we also provide horseback riding lessons, equine youth programs, and NASW-approved equine therapy workshops.

🗣️ Important Trail Ride Reminder 🐎

We’ve received a few questions, so we want to clarify an important detail about our upcoming 5 Star Horseshoeing Annual Trail Ride:

Ebony Horsewomen and 5 star horseshoeing do NOT provide or rent horses for this event.

The $40 registration fee is for riders participating in the trail ride with their own horse.

The event runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with trail ride step-off at 10:30 AM. Registered trail riders will also enjoy a light breakfast before heading out.

If you do not have a horse or are unable to participate in the trail ride, you are still welcome to join us for the post-trail ride activities, including food, vendors, and community fellowship at the barn.

Thank you for your support as we raise funds for Ebony Horsewomen’s Junior Mounted Patrol Program, which helps empower young riders through horsemanship, discipline, and leadership.

Our Equestrian Summer Day Camp will give your child a unique experience they'll talk about all summer and fall. 🐎☀️

As one of the only programs of its kind in Hartford, campers enjoy jewelry-making, art therapy, movement and fitness activities, outdoor adventures, and, of course, plenty of time with horses and other small animals.

And to make summer a little easier for families, lunch and snacks are provided. 🧃🍎

Registration is OPEN, and summer at the barn is almost here! 🐎☀️

Ebony Horsewomen’s Equestrian Summer Day Camp gives young people ages 5–17 the chance to ride, learn, spend time outdoors, and build confidence in a supportive environment.
Campers will learn about horses, enjoy hands-on experiences, and take part in fun activities at the barn. Every day brings something new.

We strongly encourage BIPOC mental health professionals, horse specialists, and MSW/BSW students to apply, helping expand access to this powerful therapeutic modality for communities of color.
