Have you visited the Mary Fields Horse & Heritage Museum at Ebony Horsewomen Equestrian and Therapeutic Center yet?

Come explore the history, contributions, and legacy of Black equestrians, pioneers, and trailblazers of the American frontier whose stories deserve to be told, celebrated, and remembered.

Experience fascinating historical exhibits highlighting the legacy of Mary Fields, BKA "Stagecoach Mary," along with the stories of Black cowboys and barrier-breaking jockeys. There's so much to discover right here in Hartford!

But don't wait too long! Our museum's 2026 season wraps up November 14, and we won't reopen until April 16, 2027.

A resounding THANK YOU to everyone who joined us yesterday for our inaugural Horses & Libations at the Barn! We had a blast with all of you, and y’all looked amazing. Your support of our equine youth programs and enthusiasm for learning about what we do at Ebony Horsewomen Equestrian and Therapeutic Center meant the world to us.

A special thank you to Tammy Denease of Hidden Women Stage Company for partnering with us to organize this event and for her stirring portrayal of Elizabeth “MumBet” Freeman. Thank you, too, to our enthusiastic line dancing instructor, who made the moves look so smooth and easy! An extra-special shout-out to The Wini Bar •A Mobile Beverage Service in Bloomfield and Patricia, their bartender for the day, for serving up the libations.

To the lovely guest who chose to spend her birthday with us, happy birthday and thank you! 🫶🏾🤠🥳

Thank you to our amazing team, including our Ebony Horsewomen | Junior Mounted Patrol captains and Fred Rick, for riding alongside guests on our scenic hayride, and to Quamel CrowdPusha Smith for driving us around historic Keney Park.

Horses & Libations at the Barn is TODAY! 🐎🍂 Come through from 12–4 PM at Ebony Horsewomen, 337 Vine Street, Hartford, for hayrides, horses, museum tours, Tammy Denease’s living history performance, line dancing, and refreshments!

Join us Saturday, October 3, from 12–4 PM for an afternoon of horses, heritage, and community at the Mary Fields Horse & Heritage Museum.

We’re proud to be partnering with the Hidden Women Stage Company, Pathways to Connecticut Black Heritage, and Connecticut Freedom Trail on this event!

Enjoy hayrides, a living history performance featuring historian, artist, and storyteller Tammy Denease as Elizabeth “Mumbet” Freeman, a barn tour and photos with the horses, line dancing, museum and gift shop access, refreshments, and more. Bring your friends and kick off the fall season with us!

Everyone’s been talking about whimsy, but did you know horseback riding could be whimsical? Well, it is at the Ebony Horsewomen Equestrian and Therapeutic Center! 🐎✨

Add a little whimsy to your life with a riding lesson! Our experienced instructors welcome all skill levels, from first-time riders to seasoned equestrians. We offer English and Western lessons for children ages 5 and up and adults.
